Default 342 J frame coating? --added pictureS/W response; post #7

I just picked up a 342 no dash J frame, gray. the edges of the plate on the right side of the gun and the edges of the frame appear to be loosing the clear coat over the metal and some oxidation of the metal appears. short of have the gun refinished can anything be done to restore the looks of the gun?

thanks

Here is a picture. Note top of plate, where hammer would be.

Okay, that did not work. Loaded picture into computer on desk top. clicked on manage files block. Got JPG file into browse window. clicked upload. failed. What am I doing wrong?

thanks.

My son showed that my jpg file was to large. he shrunk it and here it is. (who knew?)

you can see the oxidation along the top of the plate.

That looks like the clear finish was chipped when the sideplate was installed.

gun is pre lock and I think it was shipped in 1999. And I purchased it on Monday, April 18, 2011.

It looked like this when I got it on monday.

I talked to S/W customer service today. They told me that the S/W lifetime warranty is to the original purchaser only. There is no warranty on used guns what so ever.

Also said the problem was most likely that someone used a solvent with an amonian extract in it.

So much for that.

Did you ask if they could refinish it?
