Default N-frame RB to SB conversion PICS ADDED

I like S&W's RB configuration on L-frame revolvers, but really dislike the RB on an N-frame. Last week I ordered a set of RB to SB conversion grips from Collins Custom Grips, for my 629-4 Mountain Gun. I went with the model that leaves the front and back straps exposed as much as possible, and only adds a small amount of material below the grip frame. I like the looks and feel of the grips on the 22-4 Thunder Ranch revolver, and these Collins grips look like they will come as close to approximating the size and shape of this type of grip.

I was hoping other forum members would post some pictures of their N-frame conversion grips. I'm familiar with the Ahrend line, and the large wooden offerings from Hogue. Anyone have anything different?

Thanks
Hastings

I just made a similar post about my 629-2.
apparently the Altamonts available through S&W are longer at the bottom?

This concerns me as I prefer the look and feel of the older target grips.
Are the Collins grips target style?
looking forward to pics.
If I cant find anything suitable I am considering making a filler block to drop in the back of a set of SB targets.

Sir.
This is a PC shop 625-6 .45 Colt. It has round to square Eagle Heritage Classics on it. They fit very well and I think they are slightly larger than S&W factory grips. They are a handful.

What was the exact model you ordered please?
I have a Mountain Revolver I am looking to restock and holster.

Thanks!

The grips you guys are posting are beautiful. It seams that grips have become works of art. A far cry from stock magnas.

By the way, I ordered the #546 stocks from the Collins website. I have fairly large hands, but I've never really cared for combats or target grips for some reason. Some of the grips offered out there are huge. I'm a sucker for the N-frame square-but grip profile, and like to leave the back and front strap, as well as the bottom, exposed. Carrying an N-frame concealed is easier if the grips aren't oversized.

Thanks. I had actually been looking at those. I do not like the
look of the oversize grips on a thin barrel 4" no matter their
utility. Gonna be interesting to see how they handle a bear
load in the Mountain Revolver. I have always used the goodyears
on it until now.

Might even end up with the "ivory" for show and tell and
Troopers for the woods. It will be fun figuring it all out no
matter what.

Shooting4Life, Those Herrett Roper style stocks are Just Beautiful!! What kind of wood are they?

All the posted pics are Great!, Much better than any Goodyears(or Trojans as I call'em) which have unfortunately become the norm.

Some real Beaut's here, Thanks for posting

Nemo,

Sounds like you have the same perspective on the 4" tapered barrel grip arrangement as I do. I don't mind big grips on a full underlug barreled N-frame, or even the "Trojan" grips, which feel great, but the tapered 4" barrel looks awkward with wide, thick, tall grips (in my opinion).

The Collins grips have are on their way, and I should have them Friday if I'm lucky. Pictures to follow shortly thereafter.

Default 625-6 .45 Colt Mountain Gun

These are Eagle Heritage stocks similar to those shown by my Brother Bill...

The revolver is a 625-6 .45 Colt Mountain Gun. As an interesting side note, I upgraded this MG has been with forged, color hardened hammer and trigger.

With "issue" Monogrips on the 657-4 .41 and 629-4 .44 "Mountains" for comparison and shameless bragging.

That's a nice trio of Mountain Guns. Nice looking grips on the 625, by the way. If the Collins grips don't suit me, I may try a pair of those. They don't look overly large on the gun, and the color is nice, too.

I wanted a more sq. butt grip on my 24-3 but still wanted it to be contoured to assist with CCW and comfortable to carry. I started with a pair of Kelly's Rd to Sq finger groove grips, and removed everything I didn't want. They are very comfortable to carry as well as shoot.

Thank You Sir!

The Eagle "Heritage" stocks are a rough copy of the famed "Coke Bottle" pattern of S&W's late 1950's to mid 1960's Premium Target stocks. As such they are thinner and more contoured than the later Oversized Target stocks. I find them to be a fair compromise for a field gun. I paid $132 if memory serves which included a small extra charge to fit the S&W medallions.

Finally got the Collins grips. They feel great, and look very nice. Much nicer looking than the rubber grips that came with it. They are longer than I'd prefer, but if I really want to I can trim about 1/2 inch off the bottom. They are about the same thickness as stock magnas, but feel better and fill my hand nicely. Don Collins is a great guy to deal with, and service was fast and friendly. I couldn't recommend him or his grips more. Maybe I'll get some of his ivory corian grips with medallions for my 22-4.
