Default Pics of the newest family member - new grips, new pics

3" 624 stuffed with 200 grain Cor-Bon DPX and a Lobo Gunleather IWB

Edit: I just put these new grips on it and like them a whole heck of a lot. My only complaint of the gun as it came from the factory was the smooth grips. As your hand got a bit sweaty it did get very slippery. Not a quality I want in a carry gun. Nabbed these S&W checkered grips off Midway and they fit like a glove. The checkering works great for friction and they are a bit shorter than the stock grips which makes for better concealment too.

Very nice. I remember the days of lugging those big battle wagons around. My back hurts just thinking about it!

I was surprised at how lightly and comfortably it carries. I was fearful of the whole "N" frame carry thing but it seems very doable. It's 13oz heavier, loaded, than my other carry gun (G36) but I wouldn't call it too heavy. We'll see how I feel after a good amount of time with it on my belt lol.

For a big-bore N-frame carry piece, it's hard to beat. Here's the one I often carry in the winter months in a strong-side holster when I can cover it with a loose jacket. I prefer the Ahrends stocks rather than the factory ones; I believe they print way less.

I'll bet it'll do fine.

I know LOTS of folks either can't or won't carry N's daily due to the weight. But I've always preferred carry weapons that I shoot well, and for me those tend to be L's or N's. Particularly since I carry pretty much full bore .357's.

If you want "a secret" I'll tell you that you seem to have found part of it, that being what looks to be a secure and sweet holster. Second part of it, imo, is a good, thick, wide, heavy belt. I have several (different colors don't you know ) that I got back before this became pretty much common knowledge thru the gun mags and makers started offering "gun belts" for CCW.

Nice rig there Compadre. VERY nice.

I am real curious though as to how it rides IWB. All of my rigs are OWB, just what I'm comfortable with and over the years, it seems my pants are getting smaller . Maybe that's it. Smaller pants make it uncomfortable. Yeah...smaller pants.

When I got my CCW I went out and bought some new jeans. I got them a size too big in the waist so it's actually really comfortable. The gun (my Glock or this 624) doesn't put undue pressure on me at all. I'm using a 1.5" super thick and rigid gun belt by Crossbreed.

Well what I'M curious about is what it's like to fire that thing up when you've only got two fingers to hold onto it with? Got to admit it's a sweet looking package, and maybe the weight of the gun makes all the difference, but I have enough trouble holding onto a 38 J frame with only two fingers around the grip to think that a 44 would be any fun at all.

I was wondering the same.

I'm getting another short barreled N-frame that comes with those boot grips from the factory. I'd rather have a bit longer grip for control. I'll certainly shoot it a bit first to see how they do, though. I may be pleasantly surprised.

That is a super nice looking trio.....sweet ammo, excellent holster and obviously a really nice wheelgun.

I'm fairly certain that I'll be going with Lobo as well. Thinking about the enhanced pancake. My pants are actually getting bigger these days as I've lost 50+lbs these past couple of months, however, I just don't know how comfortable I'll be with iwb and new pants/shorts. The belt is the key, no doubt about it. I learned that with a pair of Simply Rugged pancakes and a belt from them. Sure makes carrying much, much more pleasant.

Actually, unless you have mitts the size of, well...baseball mitts, you'll have 3.5" fingers on those grips.

I have shot my 627 PC with the same grip, REAL hot .357's, and it was not hard to control at all. More to do with the weight of, and the ergonomics of, the N frame I think rather than grip dimensions. Think of these like N RB magnas, with a permanent T grip installed.

As far as concealability goes, they are very good for that too. While I now use Ahrends, it was more about not having a finger groove than about the brevity of the grip. If you get a chance to shoot one of these, you'll see what I mean but the grip is not as small as you'd imagine is what I'm saying.

Looking at the N Frame Snubs is giving me the urge to put my original 3" barrel back on my 625-3.
Nice looking piece. The S&W grips look good as well.

Enjoy

Bob

I'm headed to the range this Saturday so I'll come back with a report of how it handles with the new, smaller grips.

Well, I made it out to the range today. Managed to fire 100 rounds through the 624 with the new grips on it. Extremely pleased would describe how I feel pretty good. The shorter length of the grips in no way negatively effected it. I just wrapped my pinky finger in under the grips and never thought about it again. The checkering on the grips is relatively aggresive and really holds on to your hand well. Zero slippage in hand at any point. Recoil was no issue at all with these smaller grips. Seriously, they should have put these grips on the gun from the get go from the factory.
