Default Old School vs old eyes-shooting a 442

Like many members here, I prefer older S&W revolvers. The new ones just don't quite feel as nice. Yesterday I was at the range with a number of my revolvers. Guy next to me was shooting a new 442. I asked to shoot it.

Those large sights were certainly easier for my 50 year old eyes to pick up than the tiny sights on my 649. The 442 shot very well and was easy to keep all 5 shots on a steel plate about 10 yards away. Maybe just maybe..I could allow a newer model 442 into the stable if it were one of the models without the lock...

For $369, in my neck of the woods, you cant beat it!
Throw in a Wolff spring kit, and its like butter!

I do love my 442, but I'd like to add a 438 for the snagfree ability to still shoot single action if needed.

I've found no-lock versions of both on Bud'sGunShop.com for $335-$375.

I will say that my 442 has settled in nicely after shooting it a bit. Trigger feels much better now than a year ago when I bought it.

Link for the proper Wolf spring kit? How light can a J frame trigger go and still be 100% reliable?

Thanks

yes as has been said you can get the no lock 442 at bud's for under 400 delivered. In fact mine is about a month old and it shoots great.

I have to agree with you on the difficulty of the sights. but for me i think it's really more the fixed sights as apposed to the adjustable. I tend to shoot high with fixed sights until I get the feel of the gun. left to right is never a problem but height issues are the concern at first. I just have a hard time getting the front sight lined up on the vertical.

then with the 442 I got to get that trigger worked in but at least I am shooting in the 2 interior rings. it sure isn't my cz75b. I didn't expect that.

Regarding spring kits... Apex Tactical Specialties will have their J frame spring kit available in a few weeks. I look forward to trying one of those.

I picked up 6 sets for me and friends from their booth at the NRA show. Installed one in my 642-1 back in hotel. All I can say is it is WORTH it! Show price was only $20, normal price will be $24.95.

I have a M&P 340 and love the sights! The rear is a Integral U-Notch
while the front is a XS Sights® 24/7 Tritium Night. What a difference this set-up means to me!

Check the M&P 340 out at Product: Model M&P340

No, and I doubt they ever will make a no lock SA/DA revolver again.

I am guessing, that is a typo? Usually they list it as no lock or NL in the main part of the ad. If it is true, I will be buying S&W stock, as their sales will skyrocket with no lock SA/DA guns available again.

Now I am confused, I called S&W, they say it HAS the lock
I called BUDS, they say NO lock

Has anyone actually recieved a 438 no lock from Buds that can verify???
