Default Selling 686-3 ?

I was just wondering what a fare price for a good condition 6 inch 686-3 might be.There is no box no papers. It has a cyclinder ring and holster wear. But is in fine shooting condition.I gave $375.00 for it some years ago. Thanks for any help you may have.

Can you post some photos? And what do you mean by "good condition" (i.e., finish, mechanical)? I just bought a 586 no dash 4" brl for $475 (gun shop), excellent condition (>95%), just as a starting point (the "no dash" versions usually bring a premium). Stainless revolvers are generally worth a bit more, as are 3" barrels; longer barrels (say, longer than about 5") fetch less. Wear, missing original parts, etc, drop the price quickly. And it depends on how you're going to sell it: gun shops will pay 60-70% of the retail value.

The condition is everything on a sale price in terms of finish, lockup, timing, and end shake. On the finish if the holster wear is on the barrel a little and the high points of the cylinder it will affect the price but not as much as if there is a lot. The shorter the barrel the higher the prices seem to be going for these days and the and 4 inch are usually sells for more then the 6 inch.

I would say that you are looking at a range of $325 to $400 depending on where you live and the condition of the revolver. It's very hard around here to get less then $400 for a 357 magnum revolver unless it looks like a beater.

I paid $475 last week (from an asking price of 499) for a 6-inch 686-3. It was in great shape and the accuracy is amazing. Now I'm looking at a 586-3 with a matte finish. The price tag on it is also $499, but I wouldn't give more than $425 (because I have a good idea what this gun shop probably paid for it)

With 158gn. cast bullets this one shoots really well.It will reach out there a good way with good accuracy as well. The more I think about this hand gun the less I want to sell it.It has been my camping and hiking gun for a while now.I was planing to replace it with my S&W M&P 357 SIG.I may want to give this more time. The 686-3 is more accurate. But $400 to $500 would be nice at this time.
