Default Newest "Used" Toy

Hi all,

A bit of a longer thread here, but I wanted to lay out the details of my newest purchase.

Since the mid 90's, I wanted a K-comp, but for whatever reason, I just never got around to getting one. I had the money to spend then, but never made the time to search one out. In that same time frame, I also dumped my FFL which I had held for over 23 years. I got fed up dealing with all the garbage from the CA DOJ (for once, it wasn't the Feds!).

Anyway, recently here in the classifieds, I found one for sale, and at a great price. The deal was done and it was on it's way out here! After a scary delay with shipping issues, NOT the fault of the seller, it finally arrived and I will be picking it up tomorrow.

I have enclosed a few pictures the seller provided, and I will post up some more tomorrow night when I get home. I will be adding another set of Ahrends Cocobolo tactical combats to this weapon, as that is what I like and am using on my 2.5" 66. This one came with the factory rubber grips also...

BTW,

Many thumbs up for the seller 'boco'...a really great guy to deal with....

Take care,

JJ

Same here,

Since I picked it up today, I just can't keep from handling it!

The factory retro grips are actually a good bit darker than the photo shows and are much more beautiful in real life...

I'll be qualifying with it tomorrow!!!

More pictures to follow soon.

Considering the cost of some LNIB standard 19 2.5"ers I was looking at, I got a FANTASTIC deal.

Take care,

JJ

Hi all,

Thanks for the responses. I did not get to shoot yesterday, so I probably will wait till Tuesday. I also missed the window of time zones and did not get to call S&W yesterday. Does anyone know if they might offer a replacement night sight for these. The original one is dead...If not, I don't consider it a big deal...but I would like to get a new one if they are available...

Lots of luck finding a replacement...at least from Smith. This dovetail has been in use by them for sometime so I find that puzzling (same as the old Millet sight) and they've used similar sights for LOTS of PC version guns since the 90's. They don't list it on their website (I did a pretty extensive search for the same thing for my 627PC Bloodwork and never could get Smith & Wesson to respond). Hope you have better luck but if you do, please relate it back here.

IMO your best bet is to just have the tritium vial replaced. Pretty much any local gunsmith ought to be able to do that for you. Nice snag on a GREAT gun. I had previously the same model in stainless, got hard up for bucks and had to let it go. Don't miss many of them down the road...but this one I do. Nice gun.

.357magger,

Thanks for the reply..I thought I read something similar to that somewhere on this site..

I may just fill the dot hole area with some resin compound I used to use to make the red ramp sights for S&W's that did not come with the red ramp. I also don't want to spend a lot of money for such a fix.

It is not a huge deal to me for the Tritium front anyway. My Sig 229 SAS has that setup and it is not as natural for me to use as the diffferent color rear trits and a green front...So, I may just improvise...

Yeah, I think I did really well on this buy...now if I can just buy back my old Model 19 2.5", I should be in good shape till doomsday...

Thanks,

Great catch JJ and those grips just make it stand out. I'll be waiting to hear how the range sesson goes.

Thanks again,

I put the factory combats in the original photo in the safe, and currently have the Uncle Mike combats on it that it came with from the factory. I like the look of the walnut S&W combats (by Altamont, I think), but they don't really fit me all that well. The UM's do and they are also very carry practical. You really need to see those factory walnut combats in better lighting than the photo .... they are a bit darker in color and even more beautiful than what the photo shows. I will try to take a few more photos later today.

I ordered another set of Ahrends finger groove tactical combats in Cocobolo. They will look like these (from my 66-2) and once I do my small bit of custom fitting to the Ahrends, they are what I will be using on the K-Comp. I'm just hooked on the Ahrends for carry

Here's a quick photo I did with my 66's Ahrends mounted:
