The gun was actually laying on its side on a clear plastic stand, which kept it an inch or two away from the background (blue construction paper) to reduce shadows. I used Photoshop to erase the stand and rotate the pic, which made it look like the gun was upright, floating in mid-air.

.17HMR, it's a 12" barrel. This isn't a very good photo but it does show the entire length of the gun:

The Ahrends grips that were on it when I bought it were way too small to comfortably support the weight of all that barrel hanging way out there.

Mine is one of the original runs, but S&W appears to be making them again:

Product: Model 647 Varminter

DC7,

A fantastic photo job on a beautiful weapon.

Bullseye,

You started this thread and I know it will likely result in me spending MORE $$$$$$ this year to obtain new [old] S&W's....Drat!!.....the other half is really going to be upset!!!

Gentlepeople,

I fear that, shortly, I will be in the doghouse with my missus. All of these pictures have got my IRAS (irresistable revolver acquisition syndrome) fired up again and it is proven fact that this problem can only be satisfied by a trip to the local gun shop. I am but flesh and weak....

I'm thinking that an older specimen with a blued finish might be a nice addition to the family.
