Well I guess it depends on what kind of best you are looking for. I mean for collectors it's a mint all original unfired no dash that has the stainless sights, box, tools, and paper work. For a shooter it's probably any Pinned barrel model with the black rear sight and red ramp front sight which made until the change in 1982 dropping the pinned barrel.
I'm sure other opinions will vary but that's mine.

I have a model 67-6 with the lock, two piece tensioned barrel and the MIM parts. Factory drilled and tapped for easy accessory sight mounting too. Guess what? It is one of the smoothest, finest shooting S&W revolvers I own. Don't let all the anti-new technology boo hoo'ers scare you away from fine shooters.

I doubt there's much difference in any of the 67's, as far as accuracy. Some may be easier to see the sights, & so forth. MIM seems to be universally hated, but to me the actions on the MIM equipped guns are actually better than the forged part guns, on average. I don't believe there's a definitive answer to you question.

Don't know which is the best, but I am two days away on my CA 10 day wait period to get my brand new 67. First gun too. I'm thinking that it will have to be the best one, at least for me! Bud

If you want a shooter, get one of the 67-1 or later versions, with the red ramp front sight. The sights are easier for me to see, than the early version.

A 2" Model 67, (exactly like a 2" Model 15) That would have been the best, even better if it could be available with a round butt.

Most accurate, the 67-6, IMO nothing beats the tensioned barrels for accuracy.
Best for rapid fire or action shooting matches, the 67-1. One minor deficit of the tensioned barrel is that it does have a bit more mass in the barrel. The old style tapered barrel has a balance that cannot be beat in a 4 inch revolver.
BTW, my opinions are based on experience. I have a 620 with a tensioned barrel that I've shot with a scope and the accuracy is stunning. I also have a 67-1 and at speed it's the tightest grouping revolver I own. That light barrel makes it very easy to return to target without overshooting the target.
