Just a curious, wondering what the question is, person.
What is the question and what is the answer?
Please be patient.

In the old days, we were the proof readers of Jim's work. Since 2006... We seem to be content to let things ride.

In this case ... What is the actual introduction date of the 25-2 in .45 ACP?

Questions are why is the first 625 marked Model of 1988 when it was released in 1989 and also why is the first 625 a -2. As far as I know these are still unanswered questions unless gizamo has the answer.

While we are at it:

In between SCSW2 and SCSW3 the production numbers for 625-3 in 3" and 4" were removed.

I would like to know the real production numbers of the 3" 625-3 really were. (only made in 90-91)

Mack....

No answers here. Just posting a example of one of the guns in question...and wondering if we moved forward in the last five years.

Case in point....were there any new models in 1988?...

Ok then,...

88's are ramp front sights and roll marked on the barrel. 89's are etched on the barrel and have Patridge front sights.

Anything else?

I am pretty sure that all of the 625-2 had 5 inch barrels and the 3 and 4 inchers didn't come along until the 625-3. Yes, the 3 and 4 inchers had black ramp front sights.

They both (625-2 and 625-3) were shipped with Pachmayr finger groove "Gripper" stocks, the variants with the slot on the bottom so you could read the serial number on the bottom of the grip frame if your eyes were really good and the light hit it just right.

The 625-2 has the large S&W logo on the sideplate, while the 625-3 has the small logo on the left of the frame, below the thumb latch. The 625-2 has the traditional size locking bolt notches on the cylinder while the 625-3 has the newer, bigger notches

My 625-2 5 incher shipped with one pair of half moon clips, while the 625-3 4 incher had 2 pair of half moons in the box.

Both have the bead blast finish as opposed to the traditional brushed finish S&W used on most of their stainless steel guns.

I bought the first Model 625-2 I saw, in March, 1989, s/n BDC06XX. I didn't see and buy a 4 incher until March, 1991, BEN31XX. Still have them both. Both are good shooters that would benefit from trigger jobs and single action trigger stops. Both are heavy enough that 230 grain ball ammo doesn't produce much recoil and are easy to shoot fast.

I wish S&W would have made a Model 625 in both .45 ACP and .45 Colt with the standard 1955 Target or Model 29 barrel profile, 4 inches of course. Like a 4 inch Model 25-5 but stainless instead of blue or nickel. We got the full length underlug and the Mountain Gun barrels but not the regular one, which I think I like the best. Today, anyway.
