Default 681 serial number

What was the first year the 681 came out.I have one that has some wierd numbers on it.The serial # on the butt heel is AEN 60XX.Inside the crane area it had a double stamped number. The top number is 25984 and underneath I can make out 04873.Also on the crane is mod 681.I've had this gun for a number of years and am the original first owner. When was this gun made?

The model 681 was introduced in 1980. Your s/n indicates a probable ship date of 1984.

The early models of the L-frame guns were subject to a factory recall due to a firing pin bushing issue. See post #2 in this thread for details: 586 recall

The other "wierd numbers" in the crane area are assembly numbers and mean nothing.
