At the moment I'm pouring. I can see, though, that long term I'm going to have to go to injection molding, at least for the high(er) volume models. I may keep pouring custom colors on request, if things work out that I have enough time to do so.

I'm glad to hear things are progressing. Good for you! I will be keeping your contact info if I need a "grip" adapter in the near future..

I had a last second change of heart. My hand needs rubber between it and steel for the 640 to make sense to carry. So since I have a sudden aversion to alloy frames... The Lady Smith gets a new pair of shoes and a range visit tomorrow:

I did take the sharp edge off with some fine sand paper and the fit is again near perfect. There is a slight amount more gap with this stock since the wood is more rounded. My hand doesn't feel a thing but I will see tomorrow at the range. If this works out well, this may be my carry gun over my 637 if it gets repaired.

Just received one yesterday from Kipp, and put it on my Flat Latch 36. Perfect fit. luangtom, I think the fit problem on your M&P340 may be due to the grips. I had a set of Ajax polyIvory grips on a Mod 60, and could not get a original T-Grip to ever fit right. Was hitting on the grip edge which has a different contour than the factory grip. Some of the new Factory grips now have a different contour than the older grips.

Nope, the problem I am experiencing is not the grips. The adapter does not even go up to the frame at the back of the trigger-guard without grips on the revolver. It does not seat at all on this model J-frame.

I just installed the pair I received on my 351C, excellent fit and finish, better than some of my Tyler's. Great Job, Thanks Kip!

I have just spent some time grinding out the "channel" above the copper clips to widen it about as much as I think it will stand. I'm going to send this one to you to see if that fixes the fit problem on your M&P340. If it does, fine, you can keep it (but please post photos.) If not, then just send both of 'em back and I'll refund your money. The modified one fits my steel J frame just fine, so I can resell it.

In any event, buyers will have to be warned that, as delivered, these adapters may not fit the 340. Even if this special unit does fit, I won't be able to produce a separate 340 line of these things. But if widening the channel can make the adapter work on that model I can at least advise customers that some judicious grinding will be necessary for a proper fit.

I have just tried the adapter on a Model 640. It does not fit with the seating that your photos show either. So, yes, please do send your modified one and I will try that on both of these revolvers. If they do not fit, I will return them to you. Did you retain my mailing-address or do I need PM you with it?

Thank you.

It's already gone. Wife got home early and took it to the local USPS window, so with luck you should have it on Monday. Thanks for your patience.

Default BK

Here is my BK grip on my 60-3. I think the fit is very good. The function is excellent just came in from the range and after 75 rounds I like it a lot. I look forward to trying out a N frame version when available. Kip thanks a lot for making these for us. Wish you the best of luck.

Post range visit from this afternoon.

The good: The grip adapter was great. I find that I even prefer the feel of it to the regular wood boot grip I have.

The bad: I have not been going to the range enough... At all... And didn't even bother to take a picture of the target... Better get back to casting some more bullets...

Have not had a chance to take a photo but just got my BK Grip for my 36 no dash. The fit is near perfect and the feel is great. It is a great product and I will be ordering more when they are up and running. Cannot recommend BK Grips enough! Thanks Kip. Remember us little people when you are sitting in that corner office.

Default Almost open for business

I hope to have enough grip adapters made to be able to start taking orders for J frame adapters tomorrow or Monday. I will do that in the classifieds section, but will also post a note here when it happens.

Thereafter, discussions about the J frame adapters apparently should go on under my classified ad.

When I get ready to do the K frame size(s) I'll probably start another thread here looking for a few hardy souls to examine the prototypes, as I did with the J size. Then, once I can start regular sales it will move to the classifieds again.

Thanks for all your support thus far. I have one more request regarding the J frame adapters, which I will put up in the next post.

Default St Louis area stainless J frame owners

I've worked up a few samples of J frame adapters in a couple of shades of gray. I would like to get together with someone in the St. Louis area who has a J frame in stainless, aluminum, or hopefully both, to get a few pictures with the different colors on the different frames. These can be posted on the forum for folks to see and give feedback on what looks best

At the moment my lighting gear is set up at Outdoors Inc, 9755 Clayton Road in Ladue (a mile or so east of Lindbergh).

If anyone has one or both types of J frames and would be willing to cross paths with me at Outdoors Inc, please drop me an email at [email protected]. I live near there and can be pretty flexible on times.

Thanks in advance.

Default J frame adapters available

I've posted a long ad in the classifieds section, with an initial offering of the J frame grip adapters. Check it out.

And thanks again for all the help on this thread. This project wouldn't be where it is today without all of your input.

a suggestion (like you haven't had enough of those lately) to fix the bubble problem. i have no experience with pouring or molding anything, so take my suggestion accordingly.

But if you were to make the mold slightly extend beyond the problem areas, then after they set, just grind or polish away the extra material, maybe with the help of some sort of guide or jig? then maybe it would be easier to get the bubbles away from the edges. i can visualize how it would be hard to get the bubbles away from that area.

We generally frown on selling in the gun forums, but we do like to encourage product development.
wrangler and I discussed this, and his endeavor is 'blessed'.

However, I failed to inform the Mods, and I apologize to them and you folks here for the confusion.
They were merely doing their jobs efficiently when this thread was closed.

mea culpa.

Have you tried giving just a very light spritz of mold release to the resin once the mold is topped off? I don't know if it works on all forms of pourable resin but it was a tip I found when looking up the same issue. I don't like the thought of buying a vacuum chamber. Too much equipment for small time. Although for you it might be a thought if volume does remain.

I'm in the market for new grips

After trying 3 different grips.. Tyler T-Grips garnered some of my interest. However, I ran into the thread that seemed to be bad news for the company.. but also lead me to this thread.

I'll be interested in at least one once you start making em for N-Frame revolvers, epecially something that'll blend in to a stainless finish!

Great work!

Thank you for trying this. Is there a chance you could make a grip adapter like the old Pachmayr, which is like a T-Grip but without the finger groove? I'll post a pic if I can find the one that's knocking around my place.

Keep up the good work.

I was one of the lucky ones who jumped on the first few BK Adapters offered on the Forum by Kip.

My black adapter for M36 arrived today and I opened the package literally minutes ago. Adapter is installed. Fit and finish are good. I like the black color and matte(?) finish better than the polished aluminum T-Grips I have on three other S&Ws.

That's my report for now because I have a board meeting in less than an hour. Will try to share more details as I live with the new feel of my Chief Special.

First Impression (after 5 minutes): Excellent!

Best of luck to BK -- we need this product available.

Thanks for taking the risk, Kip.

John, there's no shortage of the older Pachmayr grip adapters. There are plenty of them on the auction sites and elsewhere.

Kip,

I have received the second grip-adapter. It seats much better than the first. I am happy with this one. Thanks for the effort on getting it to me. With service like this, y'all will do well.

I am gonna try and adjust the first one to seat better and see what happens. I will let ya know.

My camera bellied-up over the weekend. I will try and get it working and send ya some pix later.

Thanks, again...... Tom

Thumbs up

I to was one of the lucky few to receive one from Kip. It fits my model49 like it was custom made. Doesn't move around and improves the grip tremendously. Having T-storms last 3 days so I haven't shot it yet.

Matte black and smooth, no flashing to irritate the fingers at all. A great product and I plan at least 2 K-Square butt adapters as well. Trying to get my PD partner to order one as well.

Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the interest, mon1911.

But PLEASE, folks, let's keep the name of these things straight - they're BK Grips. Nobody else's name needs appear.

Thanks for paying attention to this detail.

Gotcha - can I buy the BK Grips now? For my J frame Centennial? I'm 68 and haven't been this excited or hopeful in a long time. Thanks, Kip.

Since they're not really grips..why not call them "BK grip fillers"?

My BK adapter just arrived in the mail. Here it is on my 442 with black buffalo horn grips:

I like it... a little rough on the edges, nothing serious. Some fine grit sandpaper will take care of it.

BTW, shipping was lightning fast. Thanks, Kip.

Randy

Kip,

I've linked to this topic on my blog, with a direct e-mail link. If you have or come up with a web site I'll add that.

People are asking me about this all the time and I get a number of hits on this subject. Might as well let them know you're there!

Default BK Grip Adapters

I just received an adapter from wrangler5, for my M36 SB.
The fit is close to perfect, and the satin finish looks just right.
I'll try to get out tomorrow to see what happens at the range.
I have tried a Pachmayr adapter, supposedly for the M36, but
the fit was really bad. Actually extended below the grip.

wrangler5,

I may have missed a post or two, but I assume the adapters are cast solid. The Tyler Ts don't fit my hand exactly and I would like to grind your adapter a tad bit, and make it in between a Tyler and a Pachmayr grip adapter in profile.
