I would figure that the cartridge has finally caught on. Every forum has regular activity on the subject of the 327 cartridge and the guns, including many new gun owners and reloaders..

I think there is enough of a niche following for the .327 Federal to survive. One of the problems of it not taking off is the lack of a versatile/practical DA platform (steel K-frame)... and "the great ammo/component shortage of 2009" didn't help matters either.

I hope it survives... it's one helluva round out of a T/C contender custom barrel.
The 4" Ruger SP101 6-shot is a natural with this cartridge. The problem earlier was not recognizing the need for barrel length to really exploit the cartridge's capabilities. I like the shorter SP101 when confined to 32 H&R Magnum. The 3" gun shoots fine with 327, but limits the cartridge's performance.

I bought a Ruger Single Seven this year. It is a very nice shooter. I like all the caliber choices you have with revolvers chambered in .327 Magnum. Still too early to tell if it will get popular but it is worth a look for those who are looking for something a bit different.

Anyone have any info????
S&W is halting production? Of what? They have not made a 327 mag revolver in years.

NEVER MIND I SEE THE OP IS FROM 2011.

These were J frame, 2" & 3" barrels were offered. Both are 6 shot.

Two Smith&Wesson model 632 Revolvers. RARE : Revolvers at GunBroker.com

Very pricey if you can find one. I would buy a 632 but I don't want to pay $1500 for it.

Well as long as we're reviving old threads
I have a chance to pick up a 6" K frame. In 32. H&R mag. These seem to be somewhat rare.
Do they have collector value ?
And Would I be ruining the value by having it reamed out to handle the .327 mag?
I do have a Ruger single six that I was possibly considering for this conversion. I find the 32 H&R mag a dandy small game cartridge and trail companion giving a little more power than the .22 mag.

I just picked up a single six in 32 H&R Mag(yesterday) and was also thinking about reaming it out to 327. I haven't checked yet but assume the leangth of the cyl. will fit.

primetime yes, yes, and yes. They are rather rare. They do have collector value. You will kill that value if you ream the cylinder. If it was my gun would I do it? Yes. Greenfrog got me caught up in this .327 thing and I had one built. I really love shooting it and the accuracy is outstanding.

Seriesguy,
Wow, you're making it tough on me . That's a fine looking rig.
But for the cost of the original revolver, the cost of conversion and wrecking the resale value if I ever want to resell I may just enjoy the .32 mag as is . No rush. I'll let this marinate for a while. Thanks for giving me food for thought.

I could never see much need for the 327 for myself but if others get excited for it that's OK with me. Just don't compare it to the 357 to closely. I saw in a previous post about at 357 and 110 grain bullet at 1400fps. The Hodgdon data list the 110 at up to a shade over 2000fps with a 110 grain bullet and 296. Granted that is out of a 10 inch barrel but even in a shorter tube that 110 will be carrying the mail.
It has a place but I wonder how many of the struggling cartridges will survive this long term shakeup in components and brass. I would have thought it would have long ago ended but it has not. If the elections go bad in November it may get a lot worse.

If I had a Model 16-4 in unaltered condition, I would be very hesitant to do anything irreversible to it... if I HAD to have it able to shoot 327 FM, I would buy a Bowen blank cylinder and have it bored to 327 FM and fitted to the UN-altered Model 16 so it wasn't a permanent, irreversible change. In the time since I had my "616" built, the prices of unaltered, original Model 66s, 19s and other K-frame targets have gone so crazy that I'd have to think long and hard and have an over-riding reason to alter one. That said, I'm glad I got my 66 when I did and am glad I was able to get the conversion done when I did the way I did... I'm not sure I could bring myself to do it now.

I would rather have that 632Pro pictured above than any .38 Special or .357 snubbie...

Since this thread ended in 2013 I bought a .327 in a 6.5" Freedom Arms 97...a joy to shoot. I am hoping that Ruger will bring out the GP100 again in .327 this time with the same barrel profile as the new .22 Target...

Another gun I missed buying was the 632 with the 3" ported barrel and adjustable sights... I have a 60-10 .357 Magnum and would prefer it was a .327...

Wink SPECS: .327 mag. vs. .357 mag.

primetime & Superman: RE: 632s - they are scarce & not easy to find, however, but they are out there at a premium !! Took me a year of almost daily searches to find my satin s/s 632-1, like new with less than 200 rounds fired & Crimson Trace green laser grips.

Within a week of purchase, I was, also, able to score <online> 100 rounds of Federal Premium 85 gr. HYDRA-Shok JHP as well as another 20 rnds. each of Speer Gold Dot 115 gr. JHP & Hornady XTP 100 gr. JHP as well as another 50 rounds of American Eagle 100 gr. JSP for practice = 190 rounds @ avg. cost of $0.73 <to include S&H> delivered to my door !!!

Previous owner advised that he successfully chambered & fired .32 S&W, .32 S&W long, .32 H&R mag, as well as .327 fed mag, of course!

P.S. - If you check the specs, <below> you'll find that the .327 mag & .357 mag are very comparable as regards velocity & energy ... the only significant/major difference is Recoil !!! . . . Mo' Bigga is NOT Always Mo' Betta !!! . . .

See Below: Just make sure you compare apples to apples & oranges to oranges, please !!!

Hot or not, it's still a 32. Americans like bigger bores.

Maybe it'll sell in Europe........they LOVE them Boullettes!

Ditto.

Guess someone figures if they keep lengthening the .32 case, it'll catch on.

Instead, how about something really new, like a .375 magnum. Take the ol supermag & chop it to 1.3" and build it on the L-frame.

It's not that hard to find a well used Model 19 for a decent price. The .22 cylinder may take some time to find. Instead of the big wait on barrel rifling I would just have Andy bore the .357 barrel and slide a .32 liner in it. I already asked him about that and he said no problem.Fun project. Not really expensive for a custom gun and you have a gun that makes you smile.

Exclamation .327 mag vs. 357 mag

Hhmmm ... Should I ? ... or ... Should I NOT ? - that is the question !!!

Awww, what the Heck? ... here goes nuthin' ! . . .

TO: jtcarm & papajohn428

I've never been called "cocky" ... well, at least never to my face & there's absolutely, most certainly nothin' "new and/or kid-like" about me by any measure whatsoever ... with the possible exceptions only of my relatively/comparatively "new" membership and participation in the SWCA & this Forum as well as: my admiration & advocacy of .327 fed mag ammo/S&W 632-1.

Therefore, please, be so tolerant as to humor me & refer to my most recent post above, dated 04/16/16/6:02pm, with particular attention to the "P.S." to include the Velocity/Energy Chart at the bottom of the page, which, imho, speaks for it itself !!! . . .

Respectfully,
