As many of you know, I recently bought a 4" 624 no dash with a S/N placing it squarely in the sights of the cylinder recall with an AHBXXXX.
No box, but a bore full of lead and I got to thinking that if it hadn't shook loose yet, I doubted it was a bad one. Original owner sold it to me and it was 26 years old, so...
I checked back into the archives here, got the emails for S&W and for Kate Fredette and sent off a couple emails inquiring about the status of my revolver. In the meantime I set about cleaning it up. The works were dry and dirty but the action was smooth and crisp in spite of this. A brush wrapped with copper Chore Boy pad threads made short work of the lead in the bore and a bit of soaking in Shooter's choice, a toothbrush and a dental pick made the top strap and forcing cone look like new.
This morning I got the first reply from someone in the service dept generically telling me to send it in. Never gonna happen. At best I'd send in the cylinder only and ask for a replacement, blued version if stainless wasn't available, but otherwise, fuggeddaboutit.
About 1/2 hour later I got another email, this time from Kate herself. She wrote that my revolver was shipped 5/29/85 and was therefore outside the recall and not affected.
Glory days!
Check out that forcing cone! Sharp and crisp.
The rubber is temporary. Stock grips are not made for the human hand, at least not mine. I figure I'll get some made to match these on my 3"
I've got the better part of 100 empty Spl cases fresh from the tumbler and a tub of 250g Cast 429421's sitting on the bench waiting for me to assemble them with 7.5g of Unique.
