What would you pay for a 3" Lew Horton Model 24?
A buddy of mine called and said he just bought a Model 29 with a 3" barrel and round butt with box, etc. He said the guy he got it from is thinning the herd and had some other nice guns. He put me in touch with the guy who has a 3" Model 24 with combats in the box, unfired. He wants $800 for it but I know he offered it to my buddy for $600 but they are old friends. I imagine I could get it for $700. Is that worth considering? If I shot it I would lose money and I don't like safe queens. I am torn since they are hard to find and this one is good. I am going to go look at it Mon or Tues but it looks good in the pics. He said his wife gave it to him years ago and he never even had any ammo for it. If I got it I would want to shoot it and carry it, but don't want to get into it for more than I could dump it off for if I decided to down the road.

I would buy it at 800 so 700 would be a good price. Don't forget to ask he he has the original holster that as an option at the time.

800.00 if he doesn't go lower is still in "good price" range since he has the box. Like you I have no safe queen's. I'd still shoot it!!!

I think I would tell my buddy that I would give him $650 for it. Would that count as a straw purchase?

The Lew Horton M24's are always in demand, it's a "grail gun" for many people, at $700 you should be able to flip it at that price
as long as it's used but not abused... the original box, papers, etc. will help to anchor the value with the way prices for that stuff
has been sky rocketing.

I've never been able to find out who the heck "Lew Horton" is . . . all responses is "he's that guy that does a bunch of special runs" etc. but what has he done as a shooter or gun man that makes his stuff so special? I like the gun you are thinking about, especially sinces its pre-lock, but I'd darn sure shoot it and carry it.

Lew Horton is a "Distributor" in Westboro Mass. Specializing in Special Edition and Custom Guns
made by the industry's leading manufacturers.
It's the company name.. much like RSR or Lipsey's.. It appears they had a great working realtionship with Smith and Wesson.
Sometimes a distributor will order a " Special" run of guns from a manufacturer.. 500 usually is a minimum.. Things like non stock barrel lengths.. MagNa Ported,Even Performance Center Tuned with fancy/combat grips then offer them to dealer as a " Limited Edition "

Once upon a time.
Is it the same one that just went up for sale in Florida?
