This is my most recent. It's a 686-5 6", prelock, and 7 shots, a combination I had been seeking for a while. So I think it's pretty cool!

I cannot add to the "kudos" these 686's receive. The one I bought in 1993 new w/6" is not "For Sale" nuff said.

Still my all time favorite hand gun. The 686 is just a pure classic, I'm always on the look out for another even though I have two.

Well, I just had to add mine. A nice six-inch dash 2. I've had it for about a month or so, I think. One of my favorite revolvers too.

Picked this up last week, first Revolver purchase in years, I had forgotten how much fun they are! Not sold on the grip yet, but not sure what I want replace them with either... Maybe just a simple Pacmayer
Not sure how old, but box is a bit tattered, has the cleaning kit and tools still in the bag, and all the paperwork, etc. Older no lock model... will have to try and chase down the manf date.
Also, at the range I had issues with the all back front sight, and not being able to pick it up cleanly on black targers. Not sure if maybe switching to one with an orange insert like some newer models would work, or maybe just trying some orange sight paint on the existing would work fine.

I appreciate the "likes" my old post to this thread is getting so I will post a current photo as soon as I recover from knee surgery and can navigate the stairs to my gun room to take a new photo. I no longer have several of the ones mentioned before but have at least as many others.

686-8, 3" barrel, dirty after a range session.
Black-with-red-insert front sight replaced with .280 inch Trijicon white dot/night sight.
New-style thumbpiece replaced with a traditional thumbpiece.

I bought a model 13 and model 66 and model 686 from a retired Iowa State Trooper. The trooper had purchased these guns as they were replaced.
The 686 was the last revolver issued before switching to semi autos. This 686 was shipped September 1982.

I guess it's all relative, but to me, that's not a dirty gun......THIS is a dirty gun. When I took the picture it was almost too hot to touch. That was a good day! ;-)

My 3" 686+. I've had it a couple years and carry it occasionally. Ahrend's wood grips are the only change to this 7 shooter. The double action trigger is smooth but a little heavy, so there may be a replacement spring kit in the near future.

I'll throw one in. 4" plus with the dreaded IL. Got a great price on it when the original owner bought it new, shot a 20 round box though it and decided revolvers where not his thing. I have no complaints.
