Default Need of some 610 love please.

I have a confession to make - I've been in love with the 10mm ever since I read about it back in the mid-80's. Whenever I see a picture of any 10mm I drool a little. Seeing all of the pictures for. 357, .38, & so forth has really got me itching for some pictures of 610's. Could you help a guy out with some of your eye candy?

Thanks,
O2B

Here is my no dash M610 with a Wichita slab comb. Great gun for pins with 1200 fps 200 grain loads. Also great for 100 yard steel plates with the same load.

What's not to love? A 610 is a beautiful piece and a dream to shoot. If you ever have the chance to buy one, don't hesitate.

RLINGO - Those are some nice 610. I am working toward the same. I have a 3" Lew Horton unfluted and have a 6" and 5" 610. Am trying to find a 4" also.

Very nice revolvers gents! Really love the shorties. I always wanted one but if I reload my .41 mags I can duplicate the 10mm's ballistics or bump the load up a few grains for some real knockdown power. A used 657 will cost you less than a 610 also.

So many S&W's, not enough money!

More to help. A 610-3 4" (or 3 7/8" for those folks). Little dirty in the pic but oh well. Just had it out earlier today for some blasting.

What's not to love about the 610. You have the power of the 10mm for hunting or silhuoette and the capability to run it on the much cheaper 40S&W. In addition it comes with the ability to use moon clips with a design feature that allows them to be easily loaded by hand. BTW, that design feature is the split in the fingers that allows the fingers to spring freely without "stacking" on an adjacent cartridge.

However, the 10mm is NOT as powerful as the 41 Magnum. While both calibers are similar in terms of bullet weights and diameters, the 41 Magnum has a distinct edge in terms of shear power. However, unless you reload, the 41 Magnum can be VERY difficult to find in local shops and it's sometimes more expensive than 44 Magnum ammo depending on where you are shopping. IMO that's the huge plus for the 610, the 40S&W is easy to find and the only centerfire that's cheaper to run for non reloaders is the 9mm. It's what I mostly use in my 610 and typically it gets 2 or 3 boxes of 40 caliber run through it at every range outing.

My only regret is that S&W dropped it from the catalog before I had the funds for a 4 inch version, as much as I enjoy shooting my 6 1/2 inch 610 it does get tiring after a long range session and it's just a "tad" too long for convenient concealed carry.

Personally, if I had the power to do it, S&W would currently be offering the 610 in 3 different barrel lengths using tensioned barrels and be marketed mainly as a 40 caliber revolver with the 10mm option as a "plus". I'd also have a 9mm 686 in the catalog packaged as a Kit with a second 357 Magnum cylinder to drum up a bit of interest in shooting revolvers in today's "youthful" shooter.

I have a 610 I bought new last year (found it setting on a dusty shelf in a gun store), and have been offered $100 more than I paid for it, but she is not for sale. She has the longer barrel.

Default wishing for a different configuartion?

I have a 6.5" 610 Classic and love the gun and the cartrige. Just a small matter of 'druthers but I prefer a blued revolver and wish such an option were made available. Of course, new S&W revolvers are so expensive that if they were to make one the price would certainly be intimidating.
I very much like that the 610 HAS been offered in several practical bbl lengths. Hope to round up a 5" at a reasonble price sometime, but the 3" and the 4" versions have sound applications too.
