Good luck, I'm sure it will be fine. I'm glad I sent mine because now I can shoot it with any load I choose and have peace of mind.

Default Yeah!

Got mine back today! It was gone from my hands only 8 days (counting labor day weekend) Amazing turnaround, but most importantly....I got it back with a nice note: No repairs required. And there is a little tell tale hardness tester dimple on the face of the cylinder where they checked it. Great job Smith and Wesson.

That was fast.
Congrats.
I'm going to have to look for the dimple on mine.

6 or 7 years ago I sent one back that was defective after testing. Smith gave me credit toward a new 500 mag which I still have. All I have now have been tested with the dimple and are fine.

My 624 3" falls in the recall SN range, ALUxxxx. They are sending me a shipping label. I had my revolver for sale on the forum classifieds and pulled the ad after deciding that I wouldn't buy one if the recall wasn't taken care of. If it passes the test, I will relist it with a clear conscience. Wish me luck.......

Dave

I found this thread as I was following up in my new to me 624. Before I acquired from the original owner I called SW and asked if it fell within the range, my serial is AHB4761. They told me it was good and I went on my way. But before I took it to the range I thought I woukd inquire by email so that I had a record of thier sign off. Well instead of getting an all clear they asked me to return the gun for inspection. So, I completed the information for the shipping label they are to send me. I wanted to check to see if my serial number is after those that were sent back in or before. I am not sure of the cut off date or number and wanted to get a sense of what the odds are that my gun makes it back to me. When I do ship it out it will be wearing a pair of Hogue grips instead of the original ones in the event the gun does not make it home. Any help on knowing where my serial number falls compared to those of you that sent your gun in sure would be appreciated. I pm now this is an old thread but thought I woukd take a chance and see what I can come up with.

Try this thread. The title is misleading but there's good info contained here: 624 chambers .44 Mag

Take a look at post #12 - from that info it looks like your s/n is in the recall range.

Thanks. I got the label today. I emailed the person that sent me the label with the specific question of what happens to my gun if it is defective and can't be repaired. His response was that the test would be a test fire and that cylinders were on hand. Call me a skeptic but it sure sounds like he did not know what he was talking about since what I have read indicates they ran out of cylinders along time ago and that a test left a dimple on the cylinder. What good would a test fire prove. I hesitate to return the gun but what good does it do me to just hold on to it. I guess I will send it back.

Well I bit the bullet and sent my gun off to Smith and Wesson. A very painless process with them providing the label and using one of Federal Express' express boxes. The gun should be there by tomorrow and hopefully I will know something in the next week or two.......I am hoping that the gun passes the inspection and is winging its way back to me soon. But I am not feeling to confident based on conflicting information I get from SW, but then that is probably par for the course.

Picture of a 6 1/2 inch Model 624 box end flap, is this the red marking clearing the 624 revolver as being not effected by the recall?
