Default How do I clean and Protect 686 grips?

I know this is more then likely a dumb question but I don't wanna make a mistake. My 686 is a very special gun to me because it was my Grandfathers who is no longer with us. The gun is all original and had less then 50 rounds thought it when I inherited it. I have since shoot it a good bit. I am wondering how can I protect the wood grips on it? I thought about using furniture polish but I don't wanna leave them feeling slick. A family member suggested using Gun butter that I use to lube my guns with. I am not sure what to use on them. The grips in question are a set of bellow.

If needed I can always but a second set and use them keeping the original some where safe for when its time to pass it on to my son/daughter.

Thanks guys for putting up with all my questions.

That's what I would do as them are some beauts. I use good old Pledge on the outside and inside of my grips. Wipe it off real good, after applying with a cotton towel and they don't feel slippery to me. Tried paste wax but they did make em on the slick side but is good for long term storage.

i agree, put those in the safe and find some pachs. w/fingergrips and do not cover the backstrap. They look and feel great imo.those grips are for showing off not banging around the range

Those look like they are a fairly recent issue set of stocks. No longer made maybe but not old at all. If you post a WTB in the classifieds here you could get an identical set to put on the gun and set the originals aside. Me, I would buy a set of Ahrends Grips for the gun to shoot with and just set those in the corner of the safe.

+1 on buyintg a set of Ahrends grips for the range and saving these to put back on when it's time for you to pass the revolver on.

For the opposing view...

Leave them on, shoot the gun plenty and pass it on. My most cherished heirlooms are well cared for but dinged by honest use and stained by the sweat of my Father and his Father before him. The memories are more precious than gold.

Leave them on and use Johnson's Wax after a shooting session, they'll last a couple of lifetimes.
