2.5” Airweight J’s a lead balloon???
There was a great article on these I think in Guns magazine showing how great they were going to be. They would offer a full length ejector and not add greatly to the weight. You got a pinned in front sight you could change out. I kept telling myself I would buy the first 2.5” 637 I found. Trouble is I never saw a single one. What happened? Did they drop the whole idea? Did they just not sell at all? Are these now going to be hot low run collector’s items one day? What gives???

Over 80 views and no replies. I think my lead balloon analogy may be correct.

I have shot my buddies 642 2.5", and I had a great expirience with it. The pinned front sight made for easy sight change as his has an XS big dot front, and the rear has been u notched for a sight picture much like the 340m&p, and the full size ejector rod is very nice for the sticky brass. His gun also has oversized combat grips and it is a real shooter...

Nice new-gun price! I'd love to compare it against my 3" M36. It looks like a sleeper for sure.

I have a model 642 with 2 1/2" I bought from Bud's....I'm well pleased so far. I've had it to the range and I can shoot it better than my 638, a little easier to pick up the sights. I really like the full lenght extractor! Shoots to poa with 158 gr swchp (it doesn't get any better than that!)

I have a 642-2 2.5". I had a lockwork problem that I solved by removing the lock.
The gun handles great. Full stroke ejector rod and the extra weight helps a lot. Recoil is still ,,, noticeable, with 158 +Ps. So I only shoot 15 rds. at any one range trip. Any more than that my hand starts to buzz a might. At 25 rds. it get gets sore.
I got a great deal from a dealer just west of me. And I almost bought another from the same guy at the last show. The price was $10 lower! They're nice.

10 rounds a day
Hey Pilgrim looong time ago i read that 10 rounds a day is better than 100 all in one session. You can concentrate on sight picture trigger and follow through with out flinching as much. Try shooting your target loads and just one or two cyls full of +p or your heavy loads.

Would love a 1 7/8" 642, with a pinned on sight! Not willing to go to a 2 1/2" bbl to get the pinned on sight, though.

I considered the 2.5" Model 642 but it costs so much more than the standard 642 I just couldn't justify it.

Why does one need a full length extractor rod in a snub nose J frame???? If you've got to reload fast you're in a world of hurt regardless......Just me I guess.................
Wait, I know-it's to sell more guns-OK then I'm good with it
Ain't gonna buy one though

I'd be really interested in one . . . but for that unnecessary and potentially problematic hole in the left side. Love the 2.5" barrel idea.

A 637, probably with 2,5 inch barrel is on my To Buy list, for whenever some absolutely essential big expenditures are behind me. A nice 16 oz pocket Smith keeps looking more and more useful.
