Late to the party, but that's the story of my life--LOL. I carry my 629 Mountain Gun in a Simply Rugged 'pancake' rig and it carries well.

Looks like the 4" 44 carried in a simply rugged pancake is most popular. Have you had any problems with it staining? What do you feed it for loads?

No staining at all. This is the second Simply Rugged I have bought. The other is for my Ruger Alaskan.
The load I feed it are dependent on where I am. Home I keep it loaded with Cor-Bon 165 gr HP in .44M and for outdoor use I load it with Double Tap's HCSWC or Georgia Arms 240 gr Bonded HP.
I have both the MG and the holster to be a great combo.
PS--The one major change I made on my MG was to change out the grips for the X-frame Hogues. BIG help on felt recoil.

Thanks a bunch.
If I were where I could walk and have opportunity to shoot randomly I would sure go that route.

That is one very nice looking Model 27. One day I hope to own a 4" model with grips just like those.
As for the holster, I just ordered a SimplyRugged Sourdough pancake holster for my 4" Model 29

This is, by far, the BEST post I have seen on any gun forum to date.
There are guys out there who own 20 holsters for 1 gun.

I've posted this pic several times in other threads, but in case anybody missed it...
Added a set of C&S Extreme Duty sights, an 'old' style cylinder release, and stippled the back-strap just to add a bit more traction. Had to sand and refinish the grips to get 'em to fit me just right.

Here's my 627-5 in a holster I made. It conceals very well under a hangy-down T-shirt.

MacBullet, i like those grips you've got. Classy looking. I carry my 627-PC "Blood Work" at times. Love the snubby. Can shoot 357s - all day long.

Not concealed, but this 629-2 gets carried on my evening woods-walks. Just tonight I saw a black bear that would easily go 4 to 5 hundred pounds. He was a good distance off, but still made me feel good to be packin'.
Now and then, this goes instead.
Or this

I am not Coop, but they look a whole lot like the grips that came
on my 629-2 Mountain Revolver. Pachmayr Gripper is the official

My Performance Center 627 UDR in its Lobo Gun Leather Enhanced Pancake holster. These Lobo pancakes are some of the most comfortable holsters I've used in 40+ years of concealed carry.

I find that my 'cavalry' draw is significantly faster than my cross draw, and also much easier for me to control and limit where that muzzle is pointing between it leaving the holster and the sights reaching the target. Also, I've found that being a righty, it's easier for me to 'forget' this massive gun is there (not entirely, but you know what I mean?)when I'm wearing it on my right side. Anyone else wear their shoulder rig on the same side as their dominant hand? I find it to be comfier, faster, and safer, but I know it's different strokes for different folks. I just got this awesome wheelgun not long ago, I wear a big jacket in the winter, so I might be able to CCW with this rig in the colder months depending on where I'm going and what I'll be doing.
|
I carried my Centennial in an upside down shoulder holster on my strong side for years-- lots faster to draw in my opinion, and it didn't look like you were going for your gun.

While I have several rigs laying around I dont have a picture of them. I own about a dozzen N frames, and I belive my model 24-3 4" is my favorite to pack. I did find a ancient picture of me wearing a Don Hume rig, but that one is for a 5" N frame and I think in the picture I must be wearing a 5" model 29-2 or 5" 27-2 in it. Hey, that picture is close to 35 years ago! I have some serviceable holsters but nothing real fancy for my N frames.
