are all N frames the same size ?
the reason I ask is that I've just spent two days trying to get a set of quality grips ( round butt to sq. butt conversions) on my 625-9 Mountain Gun ( .45 colt). the maker of the grips ( a guy with an excellent reputation) says he's never experienced the issue with a set of his grips before. I am certain these grips won't fit my M.G. Is my gun not an N frame or can the frame sizes differ greatly ?
If I could figure out how to post a photo I would. one pic tells a 1,000 words...

There are square and round butt grip frames of course, and the dimensions of older guns varied enough so all stocks were individually fitted. I would guess a minor dimensional variation (frame or stocks?) is the cause here.

Didn't S&W make N frame round butts in K & L size on certain models?

No.
The "Mountain Revolver" used a Pachmayr K sized rubber stock, but the frame size was the same as other N-round butts. The grips will stretch enough to work on the N-Frame.

Older guns, (pre WWII) had some frame size variations, but a 625-9 certainly is newer than that. Are you sure that you didn't end up with some mismarked K/L frame grips, or maybe something for a Colt or a Ruger?
Do you have another RB N frame available you could try them on? Or perhaps one of the other guns I mentioned?
If these are Eagle grips, it is not uncommon that they require some hand fitting.

I have a 629-2 Mountain Revolver and tried two sets of Ahrends N Frame RB to SB conversion grips and neither set fit right. A set on my 625 JM did'nt fit right but the JM grips from my 625 fit fine. I'm not sure what to think but it may be there is some manufacturing variation on both the grips and the respective revolvers that is the problem.

Thanks for link to the pic attachment.
Torokan, we have the same problem! the frame size is somehow different from the gigs that the grip maker has been using successfully. My grips are from Collinsgrips which and should, in theory, fit with no issues whatsoever. I'll post some pics, but won't have the chance today.
