Default Model 63 production date

Got a nice Model 63 .22 revolver over the weekend. It is a no dash, and the serial number is an "abc" prefix. According to SCSW, the no dash guns should have a pinned barrel. This one does not. It further states that they have an "M" serial prefix, which this one obviously doesn't have either. Any ideas on when it was made? I've wanted a .22 kit gun for years, and this one is pretty nice; are they as good a gun as I think they are?

Next question, will these guns chamber .22 Short as well? I also assume that dry firing is completely out of the question being a rimfire.

Yes. Shorts will work fine in it.

I picked up one over the weekend too. A 4" (no dash). Pinned barrel. S/N M1212xx. Made in 1978. Grips numbered to gun.
Shorts/longs and long rifles will all work in your gun. I would not snap it on an empty chamber. May raise a burr on the cylinder charge hole or damage the firing pin.
Enjoy!
