I've been looking into night sights for my 686 and was wondering why I find so many just for the front sight? Would that look and work well or is it better to get the rear sights night style as well? Either way, what's a quality night sight company?
I have Meprolights on my 1911's but only on the front sight. Love em! All 3 together makes for a garbled and confusing sight picture, especially if you're not wearing your glasses at night. Have a SureFire in my weak hand also to blind em first.
A bud has the Meprolight insert on his 66 snubs front sight and I love it too. Any good GS can install one for you on that 686.
Every time this question comes up I give the same answer: Meprolights, front and rear. They give a great sight picture day or night. The rear sight notch is a little wider than standard, giving lots of daylight on each side of the front blade. Easy to install if you have a red ramp front sight. I rely on them on my work revolvers, including a 686, and they work well.
