Has anybody scoped one of these. I'm in the market for 22LR revolver and plan to scope it as soon as I get one. What do have mounted on yours?. Thanks.

I'm trying to imagine in my minds eye a scoped J-frame 63. The scope would be way bigger than the gun and top heavy. Never seen or heard of anybody trying that before. I would think a Crimson Trace laser would be a better option on a gun that small or go for the 617.

Currently: 1"/25mm 4moa UltraDot, Weigand Combat scope base, S&W 617-4 rebarrelled to 4":

Before: the same 1"/25mm 4moa UltraDot, Weigand Combat scope base, and S&W 617-4 wearing its original 6" barrel:

Just for fun: I gathered all of the sun-shades from all of my 1"/25mm UltraDots and put them on one gun:

The gun has worn a Tasco 2x20 handgun scope...

...and a 30mm Tasco AccuDot:

I'm thinking of a UltraDot LT or some small Red Dot. The 63 or 617 is for the range. Informal plinking. I fired a 63 in 4" last week and liked the way it handled. A small scope would add to the fun.
Thanks for the replies and showing what ya got.

Aha, but your original post said scope. A Red Dot is not a scope and a whole other ballgame. It's an aiming device, the same as a Crimson Trace laser. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks for clarifying. I sort of regarded every optic as a scope.

They are not. In Red dot sight there are basically 2 types available, a tube type that can look a lot like a Scope but are usually shoorter and more compact than a true optical scope. The second type are Refelx sights which can be very compact. Magnification for either type are normally 1:1 but some of the tube type Red Dots have accessory magnifiers available. Below are 3 of my revolvers equipped with J Point reflex sights. One advantage of a reflex sight in this setup is that they are very close to the bore axis, so there is less variance in the POI at various distances. Another advantage is that it only takes about 3 minutes with an exacto knife to carve clearance for the sight in a standard leather holster.

Below is a Scope mounted on my 620 just because I wanted a better idea how accurate it is. In this case it's a Nikon Monarch 2x20 EER that I picked up on closeout for 149 bucks. BTW, it's a superb optic but the actual magnification is only 1.75X, not 2X as implied. The newer Nikon Encore 2x20 EER has an actual magnification of 2X and sells in the same price region. Nikon also offers a 2.5-8x28 EER variable power that is for sale locally for 309 dollars.

If you are referring to the reflex setup, hit the following web site. JP Rifles offers this mount for their own reflex or for the Doctor reflex.

Smile Crimson trace on a 617 4"

Hi! Does anyone out there have a Crimson trace on their 617 4"? If so, what model, and green or red dot?
Thanks, Grigler

Here is my no dash 617 with an old Thompson Center 2x30 scope. I think it is an old World Class Japanese Tasco. Maybe someone can chime in. Got the scope for $20.
