That is a 629 Hunter.

You are not going to get too much more than that without giving S&W the serial number and getting the product code. If you have the box, the product code is on the end label.

There were 5 or 6 variations of the Hunter made that are all extremely similar. That way each distributor had an exclusive revolver to offer. Each of the variations was usually between 200 - 300 pieces. A serial number prefix might help narrow down which one you have.

As to value, I have a few hunters and would easily pay $1000+ to buy one if I did not already have one.

Turn out this is a Lew Horton 629-4, a run of 200 pistols back in 1996. My is number 23, 6" barrel with changeable weights in the barrel. Magna ported, unfluted barrel, with one of the BEST trigger action I have seen.

Just got off the phone with Lew Horton. I was informed that it was a 200 runs series and 110 unit when out of the country. So only 90 in the states, going price was $1200.00 in 1996. I'm going to have to get a Letter from Smith on this one.

You should be very pleased with that revolver. S&W put a lot of craftsmanship in making those and they are worth what you pay if you can find one.

I have the 625-6 version like yours in 45 Colt. I understand that there were only 50 of those left in the country and not a whole lot of them made in any case.

Mine is wearing a Holosight. It will easily deliver sub 1.5" groups at 50 yards with any decent load, and less with its favorite. I've posted this before, but as we all know pics are required on the site ....
