Default 360 .357 Magnum jumping crimp with Hornady Critical Defense

Took my lil' 360 to the range today, along with some Federal .38spl LRN, some Winchester .38spl +P XTP, and some Hornady .357mag Critical Defense. The gun performed flawlessly, and it's surprisingly accurate, although I do kinda wish it had a night sight up front. Everyone knows about the recoil, but I didn't find it objectionable.

I followed the owner's manual directions regarding .357 magnum testing. I loaded the gun with five rounds, shot four, and compared the last round to one that I picked fresh out of the box. I'm pretty sure that there's some crimp jumping going on, but I wanted to share and see what everyone else thought.

I did this twice and saw the same results. Guess I'll have to find something other than the 125gr Critical Defense for SD purposes.

Maybe it's the pic, or maybe my eyes, but there don't look to be much of a roll crimp on that top cartridge for a .357 magnum round.

I'm no expert either but it does look like a bit of a crimp jump. If it were me I would not take a chance and just pick another SD round.

I bet that fifth round would still allow the cylinder to rotate and fire, but you can't take the chance for SD use. You will have to pick another load. Look for something with a good roll crimp. Most of the big name 357 factory ammo these days has something bordering on a taper crimp instead.....

Yeah, I got through all 25 rounds in the box without any issues, and the amount of creep is pretty minimal...but I wouldn't want to carry this for SD purposes. Thanks for confirming my suspicions.
