65 4" HB thread
Guys,
How about showing me some of your 65's. I got a true shooter for a project gun and want to see what grips, mods, etc you guys have done to these guns.
I appreciate it!!!

This is my S&W Model 65-2 that I traded a S&W Model 10-9 for a year and a half ago. It was pretty rough, looking like it had been dragged behind a truck; the finish was spotty, the cylinder face actually had a burr that rubbed the forcing cone and prevented it from turning smoothly, it had a bunch of endshake and play in the cylinder, and the front sight was loose. I sent it to S&W for rehab, and they fixed up all the surface issues, the cylinder issues, re-pinned the front sight, and bead-blasted it.
When I got it back, it was like having a whole new gun! I fit a set of Ajax Pearlite grips and a Tyler T-grip to it, and now it's one of the sweetest .357 Magnums that I own:

This is my M-65-2. Had my Smithy convert to round butt and dehorn the hammer. Hogue grips. Sent the cylinder to Pinnicle and had it machined to take full moon clips. It is a great shooter and gets carried a lot. Keep shootin'

My first duty gun was a 65, 4"HB, 30 years ago. It was supposed to be a 13, but they only had the 65 in stock. I bought it and have never regretted it. Still my favorite gun. (Of course, I had a chance to buy a 13 a few months ago, so I went ahead and got that, too!) The only things I've done to it, beside clean it, are to add a set of Herrett's Shooting Masters stocks (the best ever!!!) and some flat red paint to the front ramp. (Stainless front sights are way to easy to "lose" in bright sunlight.) I wish you the best with your project gun, but one of the beautiful things about the 65 is that it is, at heart, simply a shooter!!!

This one belonged to a good friend who has crossed the River. It has been well used. Even though it looks rough it was rebuilt by a true Smith craftsman and is remarkably tight and smooth.

I really like mine!
Just a 1990 model 65-4 4" police trade in but it is in excellent mechanical condition and very few scratches. I like it. It is very accurate at least for me.
