Default question about Craig Spegel Boot Grips

Hi, I noticed that he doesn't have an email address. So I am asking y'all. Are the boot grips equivalent to S&W Magna grips with a BK-grip?

Thanks in advance

They're somewhat similar in that the frontal area is filled, a couple "finger grooves" are present and the backstrap remains open but the actual feel is rather different. Spegel's boot grips feature a pronounced palm swell you don't get from factory magnas. They also lack the thick horns magnas have.

I've had my carry 649 set up both ways that you mentioned. I agree with what -db- said about the palm swell. To me, that would probably be the biggest difference in "feel".

I prefer the feel of stock magnas with a T-Grip on a J-frame, but I think it would come down to personal preference.

Having said that....Spegels are beautiful, high quality grips made out of fine quality, exotic wood....very classy!

There's another difference that may not matter to some. If you grip a gun with the magna/adapter combo, there's a small gap under the fingers between the side of the adapter and the front of the adjacent magna grip. There is no such gap on boot grips. This, along with the palm swell, gives a more hand-filling, solid feel, at least to me. I will probably experiment with other grips just to see what's out there, but I can't imagine finding a J-frame grip that fits my hand better than the Spegel boot grips. But everyone's different, so what works best for me may not work best for you (or anyone else, for that matter).

FYI, IIRC, the Spegel boot grips were originally designed to mimic the the general shape of the Tyler T-Grip adapter/magna grip combination.

I forgot to mention. I have model 18-7 k-frame with the BK grip. Having a small and fat hand, the combination fits me perfectly, but I would like to get a set of nice wood grips later. Are there maker that offers the equivalent?

Just to give you an idea. These aren't Spegels. Uncle Mike's Boot Grips, designed by Craig Spegel. The bad news is they don't make them any more. When you can find them, they run $25 to $35. They were made in SB & RB.
As you can see they have the same profile as Magnas and T-Grip. There is a palm swell but they taper down to the butt.
Spegel makes these in RB and SB.

They've been discontinued for several years now, but you can still find Uncle Mike boot grips for the RB j-frame occasionally on ebay. S&W apparently has quite a stash of them, I bought some a couple months ago from them for about $22 delivered. I've never heard of or seen a set of UM boots for a SB j-frame, and I looked. Ended up buying a set of boot grips for my SB model 36 that Jim Badger made up special for me instead.
I also bought some Badger boots for my RB 36 -- his standard boot grip extends below the grip frame but (again) he made these up special for me with an open butt. I really like them but would like to try some others.
Tried a (used) set of Ahrends but they're a bit too slim, I prefer some palm swell. Thinking about trying Altamonts or Spegels. The uncle mikes were designed by and/or based on Craig Spegel's design(s)-- are the genuine Spegels pretty much the same shape & profile? I like the uncle mikes shape, maybe even better than the Badgers, but would prefer wood. See the thumbnail for the difference in the finger-groove area between the UM's & the Badgers. This photo doesn't show it but the uncle mikes boots don't fill in the area behind the trigger guard as much as the badgers.
Any feedback on either Altamont or Spegel RB boots re: shape would be appreciated.

Spegels fit better than any other grip I've ever tried, like the proverbial glove. For my hands, there's nothing better.
