Default $1005 for a nos 624 .44 Special

My best friend has always liked my engraved .44 Special Model 624 4". He decided he wanted one and he has the money to buy a quality example.

After looking on Gunbroker for awhile, he decided this one was too good to pass up:

S&W Smith Wesson 624 4inch NEW IN BOX SCARCE! : Revolvers at GunBroker.com

New in the box with the red Circle C stamp which means the gun passed the recall. (S&W was nervous that some "bad" steel was used to make the cylinders of early 624s. They recalled them to test the cylinders. To my knowledge, none of the guns ever failed the test.)

Quality N Frame S&Ws go for pretty high prices when they are pre-lock, in the box, unfired except for the factory test firing, and with all papers. While this gun certainly wasn't cheap, it still has the inspection sticker on the original handles and is virtually perfect.

Gotta pay for quality, right?

He's just glad to finally have one. We both have Colt SAA revolvers in .44 Special and he's been wanted an 624 4" for years.

I don't think he paid too much - run of the mill 28-2s are bringing six bills these days.

I've never even seen a 4 inch 624. Is he getting his engraved, too?

I've never seen another 4" 624 in person. He's thinking about having his engraved like mine. He's gonna have a heck of time finding Bear Hug birdseye maple Skeeter Skelton handles thought!

I do have an extra pair but they're on my 1976 Model 29-2.... They'd be really hard for me to give up to him.

I've got a NIB 4" 624 sitting in the safe, with a 4" 657 stacked on top of it. Paid 950 OTD for the pair 5 yrs back at the Reno Show. Guess I did OK.

I like the engraved 624, from the gold bead frt sight to the Bear Hug grips.
