Default Model 10-10 questions

Just picked up Model 10 I ordered from Buds. Pulled the stocks right away cause they look strange. I'm thinking they are not S&W stocks.
Right stock

There's a lot of stuff stamped on the inside bottom of the grip frame on both sides.
Grip frame right side

Grip frame left side

Anybody have any ideas what these hieroglyphics mean?

Cool

My two 10-10's an 10-8 had grips like that but instead of a print, they were large engraved numbers, marked the same on each grip on the inside like yours. The other metal stampings are parts numbers/QC stampings.

The stocks are factory. One of the recent suppliers to S&W for "stock stocks" (pun intended) is Ace.

Correctly, the stamps on the grip frame are an "assembly number", the 39 under the stock pin, with the remainder being fitters and inspectors stamps. Everyone who lays his hands on the gun through the production process puts his assigned mark on this area of the gun. This probably includes the range shooter that function fires the revolver, which is before the stocks are installed.

S&W does not apply part numbers to any portion of a revolver.

Puerto, how is your 10 from Bud's? I got a 10-8 from them about a month ago. For $269, in my book it is a heck of a deal. Is your's a VPA gun? If so, it is from Australia. This is my 4th. purchase from them. Haven't been disappointed yet. Bob

Bman, Its a VPA. Shoots great. Mechanically perfect. Bore & chambers look new. Spot or two of rust, couple scratches & some blue missing but no big deal.
Only thing that detracts is the mismatch in fit between the forend of the yoke & the frame. Ain't ever seen anything like it before.
