Default Confused about the Model 25

Can anyone tell me if S&W has ever made a factory version of the Model 25 in 45ACP that was LESS than 4 inches? I know there have been several custom "after market" mods, but just trying of find out if S&W ever made one. Thanks.

The SCSW 3rd edition list a M25-3 from 1977 in 45ACP with a 3" barrel made for Lew Horton with 100 manufactured.
I'd like to have one.

Let me add, welcome to the forum.

SCSW lists a 25-3 from 1977 with a 3" barrel in .45 ACP. It was a round butt made for Lou Horton and only about 100 were produced.

ETA: bamabiker beat me to it.

Default Model 25

Beautiful 625. The one I saw was clearly a blue one and it was a 25-2 with the target hammer and trigger that looked just like a 6". However, I couldn't tell anywhere that it had been cut down. If it had been, it was near perfect! The fellow indicated he was told it was all original and I could see why he believed it. But, I couldn't find anything where S&W made a 25-2 in 3" ever. Further, the mods that I found during research were all things like Lew Horton, etc., and barrel and/or frame indicated it.

Lew Horton 25-14. 45acp. 3" barrel. Nickel. They made 250 of these. They also made some in blue. 250 I believe there as well. --Greyson

If you are saying that Lew Horton guns have special markings on frame or barrel that is not correct, all they have are standard S&W markings.

Default Lew Horton Model 25-2

So, if Lew Horton's have no special markings on the barrel, how do you distinguish they are Lew Horton? For example, I was under the impression that Lew Horton made a 3" 25-2 and it had the words "Effector" on the barrel.

Mine has no markings that I can see. Not that something isn't hidden away somewhere. The only way to know for sure is to know what features S&W did and for whom. Since Lew Horton is a major distributor, if you were to get your pistol papered, it would show Lew Horton as the destination from the factory. I believe anyway.

There might be a hook with the model number as well. Did S&W make a 25-14 that WASN'T for Horton?

Regards,
Greyson

I believe the Effector name is from Jovino's custom, cut down 25. Different than a Lew Horton, which is a major S&W distributor. Jovino was a custom gunsmith.

You're correct. The Effector was a custom revolver by Jovino, offered in several calibers.......
