Strange ported model 66-2 3". Picked it up today.
Here I am once again. Gone broker auction.
This is the kind I watch for. Specifically. Low buy now price. Neat gun.
Smith & Wesson S&W Model 66 357 Mag : Revolvers at GunBroker.com
,,,,,,,,,,, Bad auction pictures..................
Bad rubber grips and a LEft hand holster
Good Allen-Frame pictures
I picked it up at my shop, then disassembled it.
Cleaned and tuned it UP.
Put it all together with NICE grips.
A good picture of the StRaNgE porting.
Outside ,,for some fresh air,,
With his new friends ,,all K frame 357 Magnums
Good luck
Allen Frame

Allen,
Excellent post and technical photography.
Is the blued gun an "export" 19?
Thank-You,
Mike

Mike , the blued gun is my 13-2. My first K frame 357 and the
start of thee obsession.
Service, the bobbed hammer is just ground down into a teardrop shape.
It is sharp edged and impractical.
I will be addressing that tomorrow.
Allen

Excuse my ignorance but what is the piece just above your 13-2. I noticed ejector shroud and fixed sights, looks really business like. Thanks.

Nice find and nicer collection. Your pictures continue to drive my obsession. Maybe if you would let those finds sit for more than 30 minutes some of us other guys might have a shot to build a collection like yours.

Allen ... Beautiful pix of your collection as usual. Do you have clues as to who did the porting? I've never seen anything like it.

I'm just impressed with it all...the unusual new addition...your great collection...and the ability to put it back together without any parts left over.
Very nice...

Beautiful collection my favorites :-). I have a 66 3" that I bought used and it came with a MagnaPort modification. That's just the two trapezoidal ports one on each side of the front sight. It's a very nice shooter and much lighter in the field than my 686+ but if you are shooting the ported gun indoors, it does bark and flash. It also tames the muzzle flip better with each muzzle velocity increment. You hardly notice any change with 38special, but with +P and .357 there is muzzle flip improvement.
Have you tried shooting this form of port and have you formed any opinions of the gun as a "shooter"?
Best Regards,
Roger

The rounds fired were full factory 357 158s.
Wood Ahrends grips made the felt recoil very stiff.
Between the model 66 and model 65 I fired about 100 rounds of factory 357s.
The purpose was to test the durability and the porting.
By the end of the session I was flinching like an epileptic. Not pretty.
Thanks to Bubba for his support and friendship.
Regards
Allen Frame

Congrats on yet ANOTHER 3" 66 Allen! Neat revolver and a keeper for that kick butt collection.
As soon as the fliches kick in I always bring out one of my .22's to end the day on a good note.

Allen: Once again you have a great eye for these round butt guns. Thanks for sharing your pictures and insights. If you plan on making it to one of the Central Florida Gun Shows, just let me know.
