Default Stronger spring for the flag on the IL?

Just wondering if there is a place to get a stronger spring for the flag on the IL?

Thanks,

Does the spring push in the lock position or the unlock position? I've never payed attention when I removed them.

There is a spring that pulls it inward. Figured maybe someone makes one that has twice the strength or so.

Default I just can't abide that I.L.

I just can't abide that abomination that's put there to satisfy the lawyers. I removed mine from my 500 Mag and put The Plug in its place. I must say, The Plug is a GREAT idea and a much better looking alternative than that ugly IL.

Out of curiosity, what are you trying to do? Keep the lock feature intact, but reduce the chance of accidental activation?

You can probably just bend the spring a little in the direction you want to increase or decrease tension. I know this isn't the "correct" way, but it's worked for me on more than one spring and it's the only way to adjust certain tension settings. Glock slide stop spring, 1911 three finger spring, etc.

Exactly. If I bend the spring, I know it will likely go back over time. I figured by now, ten years later- someone may have came up with a stronger spring for the IL flags. Hell I can lift the flag with my thumbnail. I would hope it would be at least under some pressure since I last owned/sold one years ago- but they haven't changed anything. I know my options but removal isn't one for me, I rock my hi-power mag safety and all. Just figured I'd ask.

Thanks,

I just came back from the S&W factory in Massacheusetts and I was talking to my rep about the spring on the ils lock and how they were made. The springs are weak that they have been making and so far, people are going to have alot of trouble with them. They are computer made machine springs that the tolerences are not up to par like they are suppose to be. S&W will hopefully get rid of this stupid lock and have the regular padlocks like we are acustomed to. I had to ship back half a pallet load because, the ils lock spring broke on 15 the the shop bought. Thanks Bill and Hillary Klinton.

I live in the liberal land of Southwest, Ohio. If I had to dump a cylinder during an urban safari- I don't need the judge's niece of a prosecutor making it an issue.

They could simply make a better spring- which was the reason for my thread. I could care less about the IL on titanium, scadnium, unobtanium frames with two piece wonder barrels- because overall those guns are futuristic looking anyway. However an IL on the side of a model 29 or model 36 should result in a hanging.

The lock is meant as a storage and child lock, not a carry safety feature. Just like you wouldn't be expected to keep the padlock that comes with other guns attached during carry. I find it hard to believe anyone could make an issue of the lock being "plugged" in a justifiable defensive shooting. But hey, do what you are comfortable with.

Understood.

Maybe someone can make a stronger spring. I'll give this gun to the wife then for her carry piece and keep my pre lock guns for myself.

Is it a 38 J-frame? You could always trade it toward a no lock 442 or 642. Problem solved. I wouldn't give my girlfriend a gun to carry that I considered less reliable, but that's just me.

637, already traded a Kahr CM9 to get this because she couldn't pull the slide on the Kahr.
