Default U.S. Customs Model 65's

Can someone provide some info on these? What year were they issued, and what were they superseded by?

I understand they were 3" barrels. Did they have any special markings?

Thanks.

Default US Customs Smith and wesson Model 65's

They were a Model 65-3, and came with a 3 inch heavy barrel, round butt, wood grips and a bobbed hammer. They were issued with a Strong Leather goods black pancake type belt holster made for concealment. The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson show the Serial number range was 7D77xxx.
I carried one while employed by the US Customs Service Office of Investigations as a Special Agent. I only had it a few years,(87-89) as our National Firearms Program Staff started recalling the Model 65 revolvers after we went to the 6906 in 9mm. The Model 65's were great for concealment and handled the Treasury Load 38 Special ,110 +P+ and 357 Magnum loads just fine. After I surrendered the Model 65, we were still allowed to carry a personally owned revolver for duty. I bought a Model 13 -3 and carried it for a number of years, until we were forced into semi-auto's only, Glock 19's by the US Customs Commissioner Ray Kelly, (the former NYPD Commissioner.)
I have been looking for one for years with no luck.
