Default model 65-3 3 inch

Looked at model 65-3 3 inch barrel in pawn shop. Good shape except it was scratched all over. What would work to make the cosmetics better. Have thoughts of making a truck gun. Thanks for the info

Being stainless steel they are easy to buff out and made to look like new.

I use 600 grit wet-dry (go with the grain -- front to back on the frame) and then 2000 and then Mothers polish. Works like a charm.

I bought a rough looking 3" 65-3 and now it's my main carry gun. Looks very nice.

That 65 3" is one of the ultimate working revolvers.
It's stainless so cosmetics should be last on the list in determining whether or not to buy.
If the price is right go buy it!
I have a 13 3" and would add a 65 3" to the meager collection in a heartbeat.

If the price is right, you should buy it. A three-inch 65 makes a great truck gun.

I looked for years for a Model 65 with a 3.0 inch barrel without luck. Finally, last year I found a Model 64 with a 3.0 inch barrel at a decent price and settled for that. This year, I was able to find a Model 13 with a 3.0 inch barrel at a very good price. Though I doubt I would shoot .357 Magnums from the Model 13, or Model 65 if I had one, I'm sometimes tempted to buy a Model 65 and sell the Model 64. I really like 30 inch barreled K frame revolvers.

If the price is good, I'd buy that Model 65.

Best of luck,

Dave

Last Summer I found a nice 65 with 3" barrel at a LGS here in Northeast Fl. In really good shape I paid $400 for it and am real pleased with it as a shooter. I recommend you buy it, clean it up as others have suggested and enjoy the gun. They don't come along every day.

I shoot .357 rounds very comfortably with the original magnas and a Tyler-t grip adapter.

They also look good with a fine bead blast finish. which will take out the scratches and give it the look of some of the PC guns.

A stainless steel revolver is easy to clean up. If the price suits you, buy it and remove the scratches as other posters have stated.

Ken is right. The bead blast gives it a nice soft custom look. Here is a 65 that I bead blasted for use as a truck gun.

I have a before photo around here somewhere....it wasn't too bad, just a little 'loved' from carry.

Good luck with your project.

If the scratches are not deep a green scotchbrite pad works well.

Also if the bore is clean and the lockup is tight it may be worth
paying for a Bead Blast.

I am new but am fond of the 3" barrel smiths just like you veterans here.

I am very impressed with the bead blast look. How would I find someone who can do this? I am still looking for a decent Model 65 3", I may have this done, looks great.

I just settled on buying a new Model 360 3". Model 13's, 60's and 65's in 3" are scarce and I'm still looking.

They are nice "working" guns.... This is a friend's 3" that was a sell off from the PD I was working at when they switched to semis. He polished it all up by hand and then had a smith in Conn. bob the hammer...

I have one also that is dead stock...

Bob
