Latest purchase
I just got my latest permit for 2 new beauties. It took me about 6 months to get the paperwork done in paranoid Europe. Paranoid only for law abiding civilians. Criminals wouldn't bother. I was able to get a S&W bodyguard Airweight model 49 - .38spl from an older lady who bought it for her own personal protection at home. She no longer needs it since she prefers her riot gun in case of a home invasion :-).
I got it in a spotless condition. The piece has obviously only been fired a couple of times and it came in the original box, still wrapped in the greasy paper with all manuals, booklets, cleaning tools, ... . She just wanted to make sure it got in the right hands, money was not an issue and I basically payed a symbolic price for it.
Enjoy the pictures. Picking up the piece felt like getting an early christmas gift.

Here you go, my 642 J-Frame and my two .357s ( an N-Frame 627PC and a 686NoDash L-Frame). Love them all!..
And obviously, my 642 is my daily CC.

I think you really have Model 49 which has a steel frame. Model 38 is the Airweight Bodyguard. If it has the light alloy frame, it should also say Airweight on the right side of the barrel.
Swing out the cylinder and look for the model number on the frame there. Model 49 is stronger and lasts longer before risking looseness or a cracked frame. Those Airweight guns are meant to be carried a lot and fired seldom.
Can a Belgian get a carry permit? I've read that those are normally allowed only in Belgium, Czech Republic, and in Switzerland. But one can see anything posted on the Internet. Doesn't mean it's true.
Your gun looks to have a blued frame in the photo, not the blacker Airweight one.
Congratulatins on getting the gun.

One for the wife one for me under the tree. hohoho
[IMG] [/IMG]
Bought hers first, just had to get one for myself too.
New found nugget for us all.......It's VERY easy to justify the purchase of a new gun when you buy one for her, and say you just loved it so much you HAD to have one for yourself. It's like a compliment, and getting instant approval for your purchase all in the same sentence.

Congratulations on acquiring that very nice revolver. I think you will be pleased with it. And congratulations on navigating the daunting path to legal firearms ownership in Belgium!!! Although there are much worse places in Europe!! I have spent some time in your lovely country, and the people there are wonderful.
Best Regards, Les

For getting an weapons permit, you need a legal reason. The only legal reason for civilians is sports or recreational shooting. This comes with some restrictions and conditions.
The other reasons mentioned on the application form are : hunting and fauna control, historic collection, personal defence, historic - folcloristic- scientific- and cultural events.
Except for maybe some highly ranked politicians or the king, permits are rarely given for personal defence. That's a right reserved for criminals only who don't care about paperwork.
Hunting is more common but is getting a bit difficult nowadays since the theoretical and practical tests are pretty tough and the process is rather expensive.
Re-enacting is often done with demilitarised weapons.
Civilians can not get actual carry permits. Recently, with all terrorist attacks in Europe, policeofficers have the right to carry their official weapon 24/7 and they can take their weapon home.
L.

Correct. Factory I and J frame target stocks that were made for all Model of 1953 round and sq butt New I frames and the New J frames which all share the same grip size.
Because the target grips cover the butt, they also work perfectly on all of the Pre Model of 1953 round and square butt I & Improved I frames, and J frame which all share the shorter pre war I frame size grip frame.

Just for fun I offer a different take on my screen name and my favorite Smiths.

This is one of my favorite revolvers. I shoot it well out to 50 yards and it doesn't beat me to death. Model 60-10's aren't easy to find.

I just took my Bodyguard (M49, not that cheap upstart ) for a spin. Once you get practiced with a J-frame, they are surprisingly easy (and FUN! ) to shoot!
