Date of a used 629-2
Just picked up a used 629-2 in 6 inch barrel. It has an unfluted cylinder and is not a full underlug. Serial number BAD6xxx. Anyone know anything about this gun?

My 629-2 with a 6 inch barrel has the unfluted cylinder and is a full lug version. Got mine in the mid 80's.

Weird thing is it only looks a few years old and not shot too much. I traded a kimber 1911 for it as it is going to be my home defense weapon (44 special ammo). Those tight 1911's are more work than I need in a home defense weapon, but they sure are pretty and fun.
Are 20ish year old S&W revolvers viable? What is the life span of a S&W revolver if only shot lightly every year? Cause I love this new gun.

When I go shooting I take a K22 Masterpiece (which I have been shooting since the mid 60's) and a model 41 which I bought back in the early - mid 80's. Your children will be shooting the 629 also.

If it's in the condition you say and used for a home defense gun your grandkids will be shooting it someday. My grandkids are shooting my Dad's model 10-5 made in 1968 and used for home defense and their grandkids will be shooting it someday.

unfluted?
That gun description sounds a little odd to me as the only 629's I have seen with UNFLUTED cyl's are the classic hunter and PC models. I haven't seen and standard half lug models that are unfluted. I wonder if someone replaced the cyl on your 629??
Maybe someone else here knows of some special run of standard 629's (non-classic, half lug) that were done this way??
