Herrett's Grips
Over at CDNN they have some nice looking smooth target grips labeled as Herrett's. Only thing is they look more like factory grips rather than typical Herrett's designs. Anyone have experience with these? I didn't know Herrett's made factory style grips...

I've got a set on a L Frame 586 and they have good fit, nice wood and a great price for a nice grip.
They'll never be factory, but they are a great grip; they beat the hell out of Goodyears.

Thanks. They do look nice, and I have trying to find smooth target grips with speed loader cutout for a while. I just have never seen these in Herrett's catalog. I know they are a respected brand, just want to be sure its the real deal.

I have not seen the grips in question but some years ago I bought a pair of Herrett's from an auction sight.
After receiving them the way they were packaged and Herrett's was spelled slightly different I realized they were not genuine just a cheap grip imitating a great grip makers name.

I don't know how many sets I've bought from CDNN but it must be 6 or seven. Needless to say, I think they're a good deal. A few years ago they had Herrett's that were lacking the S&W disc on the side and seemed a darker wood. The last several sets I've gotten seem to be a lighter and more nicely grained wood. It's been a while since I did this, but I think I recall measuring the grips and finding they were just a very little bit smaller the the standard factory target grips. I ordered one set for the N frame that I was not happy with: the grain pattern on sode side was beautiful, the other side must have picked up a knot in the wood or something and didn't look too good. I called them, returned the grips, and got another pair. And all the one's I've gotten have fit well. I'd recommend them to anyone that likes the size and feel of the target grips. If I have some pictures handy, I'll post them.

I got a set from CDNN a while ago, I think they are the same ones you are talking about. I seem to recall they were about $30. Anyway, I think they are really nice, especially for the price. Here's my 586 sporting them.

I have Herrett grips ordered direct from Herrett, and those look like fake Herrett grips. Check their web sight pictures and prices. The shape is off, the upper part is flat looking on the sides which Herrett's are not, they do not offer a S&W medallion option on the website. Prices are three times what you paid, with extra features running $35.00 more. I have never seen Herretts mass marketed over a 30 year period. Heck, my Jordan Troopers cost $80.00 bucks in 1981! Just sayin', not arguing, but I think the Chinese have struck again.

Zuchus: If you saved the packaging is there any chance of getting a phot of the front and back? I would be curious as to the Herrett info and address printed on it - if any.

sceva,
I don't have the packaging that the S&W grips came in, but I did also buy the "Herretts" cocobolo grips for the Ruger Mark II that CDNN also sells (for $29.99). I have the packaging for those, and it is CDNN's own packaging. I can tell because it is similar to many other things I've gotten from CDNN. Basically a long, skinny ziplock bag with a printed card. The printed card is identical in style to one for a S&W 4566 magazine I bought from them.

So basically they are just using the Herrett's name? That sounds fishy to me!

Here's what I mean by the CDNN packaging. These are the bags from three different items I've purchased from CDNN over time. If these are actually Herrett's grips they aren't in the original packaging.

CDNN gets inventory from all manner of distributor closeouts, liquidations, etc. Their stuff is typically in their own packaging once it ships to you. That's not really a good indicator as to its manufacturer origins.

Mine came in the blue and white package and I thought the name was spelled differently may have been that it was not plural? I phoned Herrett's and they told me it was not theirs.
The grips were not bad for the money I altered them for fit and as a result had to finish them

CDNN target style grips with medallions
Howdy,
I have a pair and think they are as nice as a fellow will find for the money.
Good fit to the gun and easy on the eye. Best yet, reasonably priced.
Thanks
Mike

I too think they are nice for the money, whether they are Herrett's or not, but if they're not, they should not be advertized as such.
And Dr. Mark, yes, the ones for the Mark II are very nice. They fit perfectly, feel great in the hand and look good. Here's a shot:

They look great. My Mark II is the same model as yours.
Sorry for the slight Ruger hi-jack guys. Back to S&W.

They are genuine Herretts. Rod Herrett is a friend of mine and we go back to 1974 when he worked for the Idaho State Police. What they are not are Herrett's that are made in their "custom" shop. Those you will pay much more for.
I have a set on a 586 that I obtained from CDNN and very nice fit and design. Monday I'm getting ready to order another set for another 586 and a set advertized for Colt Python made by Herrett's.
Historically Herrett's under contract has made grips for Colt, Springfield Armory and others, just as Altamonts and Badger.
Zuchus has the correct shipping bag for this contract Herretts.
Great deal on a really nice set of grips.
