Default S&W 625 45ACP Jerry Miculek seeking for Thoughs/Experience with

What I'm looking for is Thoughts on this particular
S&W model. Also want to hear owner's experiences
with it, good, bad, or indifferent. The only 45ACP
I have is a 1911 and Reload for it.

Came across a S&W 625 45ACP "Jerry Miculek"
Stainless Steel matte finish, 4"Bbl, JM engraved
right side plate, Front Sight changeable spring
loaded, Brown Smooth Slim Grips, Internal left
side plate lock. Box, papers, Moon Clips, Black
rubber grips, and a Holster.

Very well taken care of. Plate screws perfect
condition, Screw on the Cylinder Release Curved
Button burred. Cylinder Ejector Rod straight.
Finish is not scratched up, and Very Clean.

Price is $649 plus tax.

Seen them on different Sites but they don't seem
to sell fast.

I did the Search and got many Threads but nothing
of value to me.

Thank you in advance for your Replies.

Sounds like a deal to me if it's something you'd want. I bet it'd be a fun range gun or pin gun. Probably make a good woods gun too. A friend of mine took several deer with a 45acp Glock at appropriate ranges. Actually took two with one shot once. I'd think you could load them pretty hot in a 625. I actually prefer it without the JM name stuff on it. Nothing against him just prefer without.

I'm not an owner, but my shooting buddy has one. I know it is his favorite gun. If he hadn't told me, I would have guessed just based on how often he brings it to the range. His has had an action job by T K Customs. It is a sweet shooter. I've probably shot about a dozen cylinder fulls through it.

So how come I haven't bought one? I don't like fooling with moon clips. Don't know why....just don't. I have a 640 Pro cut for moon clips, and I've never used the ones that came with the gun. My buddy likes them. He's got a boat load of them, purchased from T K.

I'm not sure what I can tell you about the gun. I like the looks of the grips, but I'm not too crazy about how they feel in my extra large hand. Although JM's hands look like catcher's mitts on Youtube, so that must just be me.

I like the idea of a .45ACP revolver enough I recently bought a new Charter Arms Pitbull. I'm very pleased with it. It's certainly no S&W JM Special, but it doesn't need moon clips either. I don't see the two competing anyway. A steel N frame 4" S&W against an alloy (approx.) K frame 2.5" CA. Apples and oranges.

The one you're looking at sounds like a pretty good deal.

I don't have a JM, but I do have a 625-2 and recently purchased a 325 Thunder Ranch. You are hard pressed to hear a negative comment about any 625 except the serrated trigger on the JM and clown grips on the performance center 625. My 625 is as accurate as everyone else attests with theirs. I'm still dialing in the 325. To me, it was a toss up between the JM and PC. Ended up with scadium.

P.S.: If you really want to hear praise about 625s, search "Pizza Bob".

The serrations on the trigger are very sharp!
Good for SA shots. Bad for DA.
I wished I replaced mine sooner.

I don’t have a double action .45acp revolver.

I do have a single action Ruger in .45acp. It is a great round in a revolver. It is my favorite gun to shoot. All my N frames are .357. They are great guns.

I don’t see how you would be disappointed with a .45acp N frame.

I do not have a JM model. The price you mentioned would be very good in my area and might get me to buy it. I am not a big fan of the full lugged barrel on an ACP revolver as I do not load them heavy enough to take advantage of the extra weight. Nor am I trying to duplicate Ed McGiverns record.

I do have a 625. Mine is a -6 Mountain Gun and I enjoy it.

Good luck, at that price I don’t think you will be disappointed.

That’s a good price. Check the forcing cone mine had some issues. A search will pull up the thread and pictures. It’s a good looking gun but I ended up getting rid of mine and buying a Ruger Redhawk in 45 Colt and 45acp. I like it a lot. Might be an option to consider if the JM doesn’t pan out for you. Good Luck

I have a 625-2 and a JM model. The JM is my favorite. It's extremely accurate and easy/fun to shoot. Moonclips are the greatest invention for revolvers. The only downside is the copious amounts of ammo that you will go through. It's a very versatile gun as it's accurate enough for target work and with a little internal work fast enough for speed shooting. And the price you quoted is at least $200 below normal.

I have several S&W revolvers. The 625 JM is my favorite. DA and SA trigger pulls are good out of the box. JM has a video on how to lighten the pull by replacing the main and trigger return spring.

I'm a huge fan of 45acp revolvers, but until I bought my ANIB 625-2 (model of 1988) a couple of years ago, my other ones were 65-101 years old. I grew to really like the 625, and it became a regular at the range. I would imagine the JM model is probably a good buy at $649. You couldn't buy mine for anywhere near that. Good luck.

Don’t be too concerned about the add ons, that is a good price for the revolver. As for mechanical issues, the JM should still be under warranty.

The Starline 45 Cowboy Special will not work in the DA 45 ACP revolver. The 45 AR (auto rim) case will work.

The 45 CS will work in your 45 long Colt Mountain Gun.

I also did not care for the grooves trigger and replaced it with a smooth one. The JM grips did not feel right to me and they were replaced. Other then that, I enjoy shooting the gun and it is very accurate.

I have a 625-JM and love it. I hated messing with moonclips until I discovered RIMZ polycarbonate moonclips. They can be loaded and unloaded quickly and painlessly by hand. In hundreds of uses I had one that broke. If you feel a need you can still load some steel clips with your self defense loads. My experience with the 625 made it easy to say yes to a 325 Night Guard when I found a used one. I think $649 for a 625JM is a good price. But if you are the only looker, offer them $600.......

Groo here
I have a "few " 45acp revolvers!!!
As to accurate shooting, "If you miss it's your fault!!"
It is possible to shoot up to 45 super without trouble so power is not a problem...[ but in the lighter guns kick might be!!]
Moon clips are not a problem if you get a tool[tools]
and a number of clips.
Go to Ranch Products for clips and buy them by the 50 or hundred.
[like .30/.40 cents each.....
I got a couple of hundred...
Also , RP makes a 2 shot "1/3 moon clip" that fits in a drop pouch ,
a 2x2x2 pouch and some belt loops that most people don't need tools
to load/unload and are great for CCW...

Once I replaced the Stink Hole with an Original Precision "Lock-Delete", put a dab of Purple Loctite (made for firearms applications) on every screw to keep screws from backing out under recoil and swapped grips... It became a darn good gun. I also swapped out the Patridge front sight for a Ramped Orange Insert one... I carried it for my woods gun for a year until I got into .44Mags/Specials... I sold it to my brother who still carries it as his woods gun. I'd own it again truth be told!

Pic of her before I sold to my brother.

Default Passed

Had to Pass on the S&W 625-8 45 ACP 4"Bbl "JM".

Thank you all for helping me Decide to Buy or Not.

I really inspected this time.
Forcing Cone: Even Diameter all the way around,
and Smooth.

Flame Cutting: None, just the normal crud up there.

Cylinder/Barrel Gap: Bad, Business Card slipped in
Right Side, the Left Side was a no go. DEAL BREAKER
FOR ME!

THE DEAL BREAKER: Cylinder flutes not centered
on the Charge Holes.....Damn!

Hammer Push Off: No Push off. (the Trigger Pull was
very nice and clean).

Muzzle: Very well done, sharp.

No Canted Barrel. Rear Sight Centered.

Cylinder Charge Holes all lined up with the Bore
(looking down the Bore with help of Flashlight).

The Accoutrements it comes with: Blue Plastic Box,
all the Advertisements, Owner Manual, no Brown Moist
barrier paper, 3 Moon Clips, 2 Keys. Safariland Black
Paddle Felt Lined Holster, S&W Black Rubber/finger
Grips (the one I like). Pad Lock w/cable.

Empty Cartridge Envelope said 2010.

The normal Cylinder Stop Drag Line.

Would not move on price. Said it was way below
what it should be (they figured it should be at least
$725). If I didn't buy it, price would probably be
increased. They didn't put it back in the Display Case.

Anyway Thank you.

So I went on my way to the Range and shot my 617-1 22lr
and 625-6 45Colt. All is good, there will be other Guns.

Come to think of it... the cylinder gap on my M625JM measured between .008-.010 with finger gauges... Still shot well though!

I applaud your attitude! Keep shooting what you have until you find the next “one”!

What are you referring to? The flutes are in between the chambers. How could they not be in the right place?

Default Flutes are a playing

Wow, I didn't think anyone would catch that about
the Cylinder Flutes.

Unfortunately my Flip Phone (their coming back in
Fashion like all things) wouldn't have take very
good Pictures, so no Proof, but...……

The best way I can describe it is the Right Flute and
the Left Flute did not have equal/even space on either
side of the Charge hole.

Also looking down on the Top of the Revolver Top Strap
where the Rear Sight lays, using Top Strap as a Straight
Edge (either side) R Flute and L Flute sat off center,
surface area not the same.

Also, with the Revolver Empty, muzzle pointed at my face,
looking at the front of the Cylinder window and where Barrel
comes through the Yoke Area/Front Cyl. Window R Flute and
L Flute had an off side to side not even space to the barrel.

Never caught that before when inspecting Revolvers. I have
heard of it before though.

It bothered me so, that when I got to the Range I looked at
my 626-6 45Colt (empty of course). R Flutes and L Flutes
all had equal space on either side of Charge Holes. I checked
my other S&Ws all is good.

Also the rear of the Barrel did not sit square with the Cylinder
Face. Evenly, with a build up of Carbon, the Barrel Edge
would scape the Cylinder Face.

Hopefully that explains the Off Center Flutes. Also hope that
helps someone else that would not want this. Maybe must
people aren't as picky as me.

Default When in dought Increase the Price

Had to run some errands this morning and pick up
some stuff for the Farm.

Curiosity got the best of me, I just had to go past
the Gun Counter and see if the S&W 625 45ACP
"JM" was still there. It was.

My hunch was right, the 625 45ACP is now priced
at $724.00, just like mentioned above.

Unbelievable, even after I pointed out the Cylinder
Face/Forcing Cone not parallel to each other, the
Flutes off, and a funny wavy surface in the Charge
Holes, the price was increased.

Yikes, hope the next Customer that decides they
may want it, catches the irregularities.

My Well Used Winchester 37A 12ga found at a
Garage Sale, $100. There always other Guns.

Your 625 can take .45 supers and thus not only is it a range gun but a nice woods gun to! 230 grain slugs at 1100 fps is nothing to sneeze at.

I ran the Buffalo Bore Hard Cast "Keith" .45Supers that are 255 Grain @ 1100fps... They smack a heck of a lot harder due to the flat profile of the Meplate. They are hell on soft tissue, sinew, & bone.

I have a 625 JM and love it. Once I start shooting it I cannot put it down and it is a tack driver. Mine have a fiberoptic front sight and a Weiguard narrow rear blade. Go buy it you will love it. Double action is a bit harder to shoot with the heavy trigger but I have the JM spring kit it it and single action is perfect for my liking.

I have one. I can shoot it better than any of my 1911's. As someone said, the trigger will take the skin of of your finger if you shoot it much. I took a stone to mine and it's better, but not great.

One thing I noticed is that I had to crimp my loads a little more to keep the bullets from migrating. Never had that problem with a 1911.

I load up about 20 moon clips before I go to the range. I don't have to load magazines like I would with a 1911 at the range.

Another thing I noticed is if I don't use the moon clips the revolver still works. The cases just fall out by themselves without using the extractor. My loads are on the light side.

The 625 with a 4" barrel is well balanced, probably the ideal barrel length. I replaced the grips. The JM grips are too slick.

It's defiantly worth the money, I would buy it. $650 is more than fair.

Thank you all for your Replies.

I did not buy the Revolver. Please read my replies
above.

There was 3 items wrong with it, that I could not live
with.

Thank you for all the encouragement, but there are
more Revolvers out there for the buying.

Thank you
