Where to Buy a 396 Mountain Lite
I'm looking for information regarding where I may find a new or like new 396 Mountain Lite for sale. I've heard about some people seeing them in their local gun shop, but nothing recently. I hope I'm not violating any forum rules by posting this here, if so I apologize. I'm not trying to buy one from somebody on the forum so I didn't think the "wanted to buy section" was appropriate. I figured the revolver section was best because there was a good chance one of you guys has seen one around.
Thanks

Check Gun Broker, I see them on there from time to time. I have never seen them for sale locally here, I also have thought about getting one but never found one at a good price. I do love my 296 and it has kept me from looking to hard for its replacement.

Thanks. I do look there every couple of weeks. I saw one a few months ago that I think was selling for over $1000 (which may be a fair price, I don't know). I have thought about a 296 (equally hard to find it seems) but I think I prefer the longer barrel and single action option of the 396. Plus, since the 296 is too big to be a pocket gun like my 340 M&P (at least for my pockets) I don't understand the desire for an internal hammer in such a gun.
I have also considered a 396 night guard or a 329 night guard. Again I prefer the slightly longer barrel of the 396 Mountain Lite and the 329 is just too big. I have a 329 PD that I would carry if I wanted to go that route as the 4" barrel would make concealment appreciably more difficult than with the 329 night guard.

If I were looking, I'd look on my table at a gun show. I've got 2 of the 396 no dash guns and just figured it was too many. So I've been haulin' the second one around from show to show. Everyone wants to look and handle the 329PD and doesn't much even think about the little even lighter one sitting next to it.

I will be going to a couple of Florida shows this weekend, so I will keep my eyes open for you. I have a 396 and recently purchase a 296 at Tulsa. We have not seen a 396 or 296 at a Florida gun show for a couple of years....but then who know what will come out of someone's gun safe.

There's a 396 NG on GB right now. I have one, and think it's an awesome gun. These were discontiued about a year ago, so you probably have a better chance of finding one of these than a Mountain Lite.
You can always start with the NG until you find the ML.

396 ?
I am so glad to hear about people liking their 396's
I have one that I bought used , but NIB at a local Cabela's
I believe I paid $649.00 which I thought was a heck of a buy for what it is.
Considering folks hysteria over the Model 696 I was surprised to see it discontinued so quick.
Well, I guess they would have kept making those too if they had really sold well. As soon as its discontinued we all want one.

Keep looking
I have one I picked up in a gunshop that normally doesn't have that type of gun. It's not a plinker, and I don't shoot it like a target gun, but it sure is nice to carry as you don't even know it's on. It's my favorite woods gun. I carry it much more than my 696, because of the weight.
Keep in mind you'll probably have to custom make a holster, as the 3 1/2 barrel and high vis sight make it a little too much for a 3" holster. O'Rouke did mine though and it works fine.
I'll let you know if I see another one.

On memorial day I heard abt a 386 mountain lite for sale. Checked the SCSW on the specks. Its 18.5 oz and 7 shots, 12 oz less then my 66 and one more shot. Bought it and everyone said it would kick hard. I shoot one handed and didn't think the recoil was so bad. Perfect carry gun, very happy with it. Be patient and what you're looking for will show up somewhere, Larry

Thanks for all the replies. I'll probably be at the same show as florange so I'll keep an eye out for one.
I didn't know that there was a 7 shot 386 made, that sounds like a neat gun also.

Naby:
I didn't see a 296 or 396 at Tampa on Saturday or Deland on Sunday. There is a 296 on AutionArms...the Buy It Now is high but I have no idea what it might actually go for... Take Care and good luck.

Thank you for looking and letting me know. I looked at a show in the panhandle but didn't see any either.

I picked up a 396 Night Guard today. A local gun shop had a brand new one. I wanted the longer barrel and lighter weight of the Mountain Lite but I think I'll appreciate the weight of the Night Guard when it comes time to shoot it. I was tempted to order a 329 for the extra round and the option for magnums but I decided against it.

I tried out my 396 NG at the range today. I think I made a good choice. I was expecting it to be a lot like shooting specials out of my 329 PD but it is not. There was some extra recoil but it wasn't too bad. The lightweight 396 or 296 probably isn't a lot of fun to shoot.

Hold on just a second there...
The 396NG is lighter and has a shorter barrel than the original 396. What I've found over the years is the longer barrel guns seem to be easier than the short ones. Once you get up to the 4" range, it seems to be a more moderate push when compared to a snubby.

My apologies. I was talking about the 396 Mountain Lite, the subject of this thread. I was just too lazy to be specific.
