686 no dash estimate
I've been a long time browser on this forum - great info here.
I have been the owner of this revolver for about 5 years and am potentially looking to place it up for sale / trade. Wondering if anyone could give me a rough fair value price to place on classifieds on the net.
It's a 686 no dash, M stamped and overall in great shape with tight lock up and little wear at all.
Any input / suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks

just mail it to me
The "M" means its been modified, worthless just about, Ill take it off your hands and wont even charge you anything.
Just kidding. Without a picture or a location its hard to tell, but Id say depending on local comparrisons and condition somewhere around 500 dollars would be what Id expect to pay

I agree...around $500 or a little more. The grips are nice but not original and that matters to some. I have seen most 686's go from $450 to a little over $600. Your results may vary!

I would NOT expect that you would be able to buy a beautiful 4" no dash like this one for $500. OTD......

I differ, without the right grips, I would put it at around $450.

This is my 686 no dash that I bought 3 months ago from a LGS for $380 otd. It had several scratches that I had to remove, one was deep enough to require some use of a file. It does not have the "M" stamp.
It's pretty now, not so much when I got it. I think it was a fair price for the condition it was in.
Your 686 looks to be in much better condition. There is a 686 "M" stamp at another LGS. It's in as good condition as yours and it is priced at $500. It's been sitting for several months.

appreciate the replies - I do have the original grips that came with it as well and a High Noon pancake horsehide holster as well.

Hi there, welcome to the forum.
Around here that gun, a 4" 686, would go for about $595 on consignment at the LGS. If it didn't sell within 90 days, they'd probably lower it to $550 at which point it would vanish. They'd charge you 15% to sell it which would net you $515 to $475ish.
With that in mind, I've seen them for sale on this forum in the $500 to $525 range (recently as I recall). Which makes sense, because that's the same as you'd 'net' if you sold it at the LGS.
I was actually paying attention to the prices because I recently traded a 686-1 6" plus $100 for a 686-4 4" in spectacular condition. My total investment at the end of the story is an even $550 and I am extremely pleased with that deal. I got the greatest 686 ever made - or that ever will be made - in perfect, original condition! Heck a new one would run you over $700 and wouldn't be as high quality as the -4.
Just FYI; yours appears to have been refinished (probably sanded and polished to remove scratches) and now appears to have a shiney 'satin' type finish. Originally, they have a sort of matte stainless finish (others can clarify that). That doesn't hurt the price much, but I don't think it helps it any either.
Another thought; figure out what you REALLY want, and try and trade +/- some money. I've done really well with trades lately.
Anyhoo, welcome to the forum and I hope that helps.
