Default pricing on model 40

Hi all,
my local gun shop has a N.I.B. model 40 in stock but asking a little over 600.00 for it. I personally like a model 40, but am not sure they are even still manufactured.
Any pros and cons in regard to this revolver, and is the pricing anywhere in line?
Gun is no/lock and blued. Location is Arizona. Thanks in advance for any guideance.

The mod. 40 was re-introduced a couple years ago. It is probably of new mfg. That is about the going price. If it really is a Mod. 40 no dash, they had been discontinued in 1974. The Mod. 40 (all steel) is an excellent carry gun, and current prices depend on condition. If in excellent or better condition, they will bring nearly as much as a new one. Check the S/N, if it is all #'s (1-30160) it is an earlier issue up to 1968, then an "L" prefix was added.
