Default 686 7 shot cylinder

Can a 7 shot cylinder be installed on any 686 without any problems?

You might need a different size hand or tuning of the timing.

Ron In MD:

I don't know the answer to your question (I'm not very smithy) but you can search the Smithing sub-forum and I bet somebody has done this. arc2x4 is right: a new hand is probably required for the 7-holer.

edit....

Here are a couple of threads that you may find helpful:

686 Cylinder assembly swap

Cylinder Swap??

Looks like the swap needs to be done by a gunsmith and S&W will do it for you for about $140. That's pretty reasonable, imho, because you gain a new firearm with a cylinder swap.

end of edit...

Chris
Doesn't sound like a feasible thing to do for one extra shot.

We can close this discussion, no more replies required.

Thanks to all.
