Price check and date check on 629-4
Hi all,
I'm posting to request some insight on a price for a 629-4 I came across today at a LGS. Had a 5" barrel, and was the "629 Classic". I would rate it in very good to excellent condition, do not believe it has box or papers. Serial number was CAU46XX.
Had a tag of $695 on it, and with tax and the background check fee would come to about $746. Seemed a bit high to me, but did the Classic bring in that much dough for the series?

That's the last of the N frames prior to the firing pin being moved off the hammer and into the frame. The 5" is probably the least common of the Classic and sold for a good bit less than that new. However that was then and this is now.
I'm not aware of what they sell for now. It seems like a bit much but it only takes one person that wants it bad enough to make it worth that much.

It might be a little high. Have not bought one in a while. But, they are great guns, and they don't make them like that anymore. I bought a -3 used back around 1995 or 6. I liked it so much I found one each for my two sons. Personaly, if I was in the market for one, I would not worry about whether the price was too high, I would consider how much I could use it. It won't take too long to shoot up a couple hundred dollars worth of ammo.

Smith & Wesson demands a premium where I live. I stopped at a local gun shop on my way home tonight and saw a 629-4 with full under lug in 6 1/2".
The price tag on it was ....... $900 no case, no box, no tools, no paper - just the gun. A 629-4 classic 6 1/2" with full under lug nothing else with it except the sales tax to pay

I bought an "unfired" 629-4 5" in 2007 --- paid around $850 (or rather the insurance co. did). The -4 IS somewhat more desirable than later models.
When you say "good" condition ---- what's obviously not excellent about it?

That's how coins are rated, 80,90% is a better way to say it.
I guess this is an old post anyway.

Yep sometimes old posts come back to life. I wonder does the Op have the gun now?
