5-Inch 629-1 W/Dovetailed Front Sight?
As the title says. LGS has this gun in excellent condition.
However, two things bug me:
1) 5" Barrel. SCSW doesn't list this as standard for the -1.
2) Front sight is dovetailed in. It looks like the old "Marbles" sight for .22 rifles. Sight looks very much like this (web image)
Is there any chance that this is a legitimate gun, not a cobbled together bubba job?

The only Smith revolvers I'm aware of that came with factory dovetail front sights are the somewhat modern Performance Center guns. Sounds like someone lopped an inch off the barrel and cut in a front sight.

That was my first thought, but it has what appears to be the original "ramp" milled onto the barrel, just with a dovetail cut where I'd expect to see a pin.

Is the barrel a full lugged version?
Could be someone replaced the origional tube with one from a Classic Hunter series gun and dovetailed the front sight to boot.

Nope, barrel is standard 1/2 underlugged.

Mystery Solved
Went back to look at this one again.
What it is is a longer barrel gun that was cut back. They had carefully carved off the ramp part of the barrel and then milled a slot into the rib and silver soldered the ramp in place. Even the ribs line up. Crown looked perfectly factory, too.
Then ruined the perfect job by milling a dovetail into it and adding that silly 22 rifle front sight.
