Default model 67 stamped as 617-6

I have a model 67 that is brand new, in the box, that is stamped under the crane as a 617-6.
The Smith and Wesson label on it box indicates it is a Model 67.
It is a .38 Special revolver.
Anyone heard of this before???

Welcome to the Forum. It happens occasionally - search and you'll find examples all the way back to the 1970s, like model 57s mis-stamped as 29s. Someone was not paying attention at the factory, but no harm done unless you insist on shooting .22 LR in it because of the stamping .

Just checked mine for the first time - stamped 67-5 and purchased new earlier this year. I guess it is just a plain old mistake, but kind of strange to me.
