model 19-8 .38 special ctg
just picked this bad boy up in pawn shop the other day, now i want a model 27 lol.
my whole life i never was fond of revolvers, i remember even as a child thinking of them as stupid/ugly.
well this model 19 makes me less fond of my glock, and i havent even shot it yet.
i find the weight of the steel to be very comfortable.

No such thing as owning just one revolver. Be prepared to spend your money.

ericlosh, nice looking M-19. It's my understanding S&W produced a number of M-19's chambered for the 38 special round instead of the .357 Magnum round for shipment to several foreign government police agencies. It is also my understanding that these have a certain collectors value.

i'm interested as well. i did notice that the blueing doesn't match from frame to barrel. that doesn't always mean anything though. maybe the barrel was swapped out at some time?
i always liked the look of the four inch barrel with the round butt

S&W discontinued square butt frames around 1996.
19-8s came out only about a year before the Model 19 was discontinued in 1999.
In 2000, S&W made a run of 19-8s marked .38 S&W SPECIAL CTG.

It's an odd duck, but a nice one. If it shoots well, it's a fine purchase.
You'll soon forget your Glock, especially if you get your mitts on a 3rd generation S&W....and a model 27....and a Chief's Special.....and a K22.....and then the addiction to fine leather will kick in, and Myres, Lawrence, and Brill will become the other names in your safe. Glocks will become guns you sell to buy more Smith and Wessons.

so i guess i did good when i got this bad boy $400 out the door?
also in the next year or so i will be looking for a very specific smith. i will have the exact s/n. its an important family piece.
My great grandfather bought my grandfather a s&w .38 special to carry in korea. Now my gramps was a medic and had a colt 1911 issued. My great grandfather was not a fan of that gun and bought and sent my gramps a.38 special to carry as well. Unfortunatley in this sense, my grandmother has outlived her retirement and has to sell things every year to pay taxes on her house, this year its a 1899 $10 gold coin. I understand that she has no real choice and i only regret i couldnt buy it off her last year. at any rate it is becoming my mission to find this gun.
ill be getting the info on this gun soon to start my search and hopefully wooo its current owner.

i really already fancy a fine leather holster for this gun, and some ammo pouches and or a "classic" belt with bullet loops.
i also want a model 27. a beefier heavier model 19? im on board with that idea. Im thinkin of getting my dad a nice smith chambered in .22 once i graduate and can make money. a nice thank you gift for all his help in my life. he like to go shooting with me but hed like to do it cheaper so a .22 would be real nice for him.
