Oh, think I may have started a thread when I didn't need to.
586-4 6" barrel
Serial number CAA6854
Would that be 1993?

Would someone please look up my serial numbers for dates and any accompanying info?
27-3 .357 6" blued w/wooden grip, adj rear sights N9314**
66-2 .357 3" silver w/ wooden grip adj rear sights AFK91**
Both have numbers stamped on the chamber side that I don't know what they mean.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Zac
BTW, what is the concern about posting the complete SN?

Welcome to the Forum,
"BTW, what is the concern about posting the complete SN?"
It's mostly internet based fright on posting a serial# that someone else can say was their firearm and was stolen. If the gun is properly registered in your name, you have no real worries IMHO.
Model 66-2 (it's stainless steel-not silver)= 1984
Model 27-3 = 1983
The numbers stamped on the frame and yoke are internal factory control numbers and mean nothing once the firearm leaves the factory. The only stamped number on the frame that means anything is the serial#.

Hi, all. I posted an earlier thread titled "Collectability of Model 15-4" in which I stated a thought the serial number on this gun corresponded to a 1982 ship date, but I wasn't sure. The serial number is 265KXXX. Can someone please verify if this is correct? Below are pictures of the gun, serial number, and box label.
Thanks in advance.

617-1
Hi -
I'm about to procure an excellent 617-1 with a lovely wooden grip. So far I only know that the serial no. is BRE3838. The first owner passed away, and now his daughter is passing it on after 10 years. She doesn't have any papers indicating the manufacturing date or year, so therefore I proceed to ask here. I am sorry to be a bother, but I cannot find anywhere on the internet where I am able to find out for myself.
Very grateful for any help in this matter!

I seem to be about the only one who answers these posts lately. DMV is pretty new and I don't really see it listed in the SCS&W. A cursory search of the internet shows that the Model 351C was introduced in 2014. So, it was produced sometime between 2014 and now. Thats the best I can do.

Welcome to the Forum,
I'm going to need pic's to pin down which model you have and approximate date. Is there a letter in front of the serial#? The serial# is located on the bottom of the grip frame. Have a look at this sticky and fill in some blanks for me.

Thank you for your patience and help.
This is a nickle plated 4" bbl. This fires 38 special and looks like a model 10, it was called a Pre10 at the shop.
The serial number on the butt is: S * 933630
In the yoke there is a number (for matching assembly 6124) and then a small 3 and a large 3.
There are 3 screws on the right side; one up near the hammer, one at the rear of the trigger guard and one just below the cylinder. On the bottom there is a strain screw and one in front of the trigger guard.

Thats better....
The "S" is part of the serial#. Serial# S933630 dates to about 1947. The revolver is called a .38 Special, Military & Police Model and you are correct some folks call the post war non Model numbered revolver's "Pre" and in this case "Pre" Model 10 would be correct. If the hammer and trigger are nickel plated the revolver has been re-finished and I would think that a nickel plated early post WWII revolver would be a somewhat rare finish given the time frame. Again, post some pic's if you can.

I can't get my pics up of the nickle palted 38 special Pre 10
The S * 933630 serial number we have been looking at has these numbers stamped in the yoke/ crane
small 3 and then a larger 3
below 6124 (which matches the cylinder)
What do the small and then large 3 refer to?

The 6124 is called an assembly number that keeps fitted parts together during the assembly and finishing operations. Once the revolver leaves the factory it doesn't mean anything. The little and big "3" are assembler and inspector stamps. If interested I can PM you a step by step picture posting tutorial.

Go ahead with the PM. I kept being told I didn't have access to album making. By the way, I am originally from Syracuse, NY and we were often in Canada, where in Canada are you (roughly).

Welcome to the Forum,
On the Model 31 and 31-1 ANR is not part of the serial#. The official serial# is located on the very bottom of the grip frame. You may have to remove the grips on the revolver to see the serial#. The Model 31-1 was produced from 1961-1980. The serial# may have a "H" serial# prefix which would be part of the official serial#. Refer to the "Sticky" at the very top of the Forum page titled " To identify you gun" for further information.

Model 60 Serial #
Looking for info on two Model 60's I purchased from an estate sale.
I also have a question about the pinned barrel. One has it. The other doesn't. Does it affect value or reliability?
serial # 657174 and AAZ3531.

Welcome to the Forum,
Pinned vs non pinned barrel doesn't affect reliability what so ever. Value wise, I believe most "collectors" would prefer a vintage revolver with a pinned barrel but if you are not venturing into the collector realm it doesn't matter. Both should be just as sturdy and reliable.

Serial Number lookup and 586 modification question
Hi folks! Newbie here with 2 questions.
I have a "Mod.586" 4" barrel with serial number ABU6983 Can you look up the "ship date" on this please?
Also, I understand the 586's had a recall to correct a firing pin issue that caused problems with repeated 357 use. How do I tell if mine has been recalled and repaired?
Thanks in advance for your help!

If the revolver was sent back for the recall it will have a "M" stamp on the frame under the yoke. Not all 586/686 revolvers required repair.

Hello all, I am a new member to this forum and I apologize for asking a question that has probably been asked a 100 times before, but although info for the make and model of my firearm is abundant, I can not seem to get an accurate date of manufacture. Every place I have searched on the web says this serial # can not be found. My gun is a Model 14-4 K38 Masterpiece Smith & Wesson 8 3/8" barrel. The serial # is 85K9157. I am looking for a date of manufacture for my records. Thank you for any and all reply's. Kelley

Thank you! I do not see a "M" stamped on the frame. So I reached out to S&W for a response as to whether I need the mod. I do fire 357 rounds from time to time.
