Gentlemen, I'd be grateful if one of you can provide the date on a Model 24-3 Serial Number ABZ17XX.

Thanks in advance for the date and any information you may be able to provide. Using the forum's "search" I've read that there were only 2500, 4" barrel examples produced sometime in the 1980's but a confirmation of that and a more specific date would be greatly appreciated.

Regards, Q1

Default Thanks

824tsv...

Thank you for at least putting me in the ballpark. I was making a guess it was about ten years old or close, but I'd read somewhere the four numbers on the box following the serial number was interpreted as first digit=last digit of year, next three numbers was the day of the year.

Mine reads 7010, but neither 1997 or 2007 really felt right.

'preciate it.

Default Dates for M66-4 and M27-2

Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of info on my Smith & Wesson revolvers. I would appreciate it if somebody can provide me with the factory ship dates for my pistols.

My model 66-4, s/n CCE1105, was purchased new in the mid 1990's.

My model 27-2, s/n M495738, was acquired from a friend of my Dad about 6 years ago. It is a beautiful piece with only couple of blemishes to the bluing.

I find that I shoot more accurately with the N-frame, M27. My daughters and nieces do better with the M66.

Any insight you can provide is appreciated.

Regards,

6mmrem,
Hello and Welcome to the Forum,
Your Model 66-4 with a serial# prefix of CCE dates to approx November 1997.
Your Model 27-2 will have a"N" in front of the serial#, not a "M" as you have probably hit the wrong key on the keyboard. This serial# dates to approx 1978.
Hope this info helps,
Robert

Hello,
Serial# info is a little sketchy on the newer models. By looking at the serial# tables in the Standard Catalog, I'm going to guess at approx 2003. I have read that if you call S&W customer service, they can give you the production date although I have not done this personally.

Hello, I just purchased my first revolver. Beautiful 66-1 (serial # 36K8654) with walnut grips. No signs of wear. Could someone help me with its history?

I just purchased a six inch barrel 66-2 with serial # ABY04xx. There was no paperwork or box. I really don't know much about it so any information on the gun would be much appreciated.

Just bought the catalog and not 100% sure how to read it, so dont hold me to this. Looks like manuf. date between '82-'83.
M66-2(1982) eliminated cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel. also changed cylinder length to 1.62". has excellent condition listed @$400

Thank you giggity! The price seems pretty low compared to what they are currently going for here locally and on GB.

Does it mention anything about how many were produced with the 6" barrel vs. the other barrel lengths?

Speedieguy- I dont think their estimates are on par with market value either.

6" B's werent introduced intil '78. thats about as far as it goes. Nothing that detailed.

Greetings. I have been lurking for a while now. I have a guy wanting to trade me a smith snub nose so I am trying to find some more info on it.

It is a model 66-3 and the serial number is tty0***.
It is a 2.5 inch and barely has a turn line.
How old is this one and did it come with rubber combat style grips from the factory?

cmw1101-
M66 introduced in 1970. M66-3 with target grips started in 1986. In 1994 they switched to Uncle Mikes grips on the 2.5" 2005 discontinued.
The catalog describes combat grips as smooth wood with finger grooves. Serial number suggests this one was made in '94,so they may be the Uncle Mikes grips

tajames1,
Hello and Welcome to the Forum
You typed 1904, which isn't a Model #, you probably meant to type either
5904, or 6904 and that serial# with a prefix of TZH dates to approx 1992-93 according to the Standard Catalog.

calynn,
Your Grandad had exquisite taste. Thats a beauty and dates to 1982. I'm sure it will be a cherished heirloom.

Thank you so much. I've got the old leather western getup he had with it too. Wish we had a picture of him hamming it up with it! It'll always be in the family! Appreciate the date!

Bought this Model 27 Serial No. N611496 back in the Mid 80"s as I remember. I only fired it about 20 times it has been in the wood box
since then still as beautiful. I hope someone can refresh my memory as to a mfg. date and an approx value.

WMK642,
Hello. The Standard Catalog indicates:
N600000 1979-1980

Value will depend on many things, mostly original condition, but also barrel length. The shorter barrels are the most popular, in particular the 3 1/2" and 5". I would post a thread in the 1961-80 forum with a couple of pic's, someone will give you an idea of what it's worth.

Hello, pretty new here. Actually really new, just joined. Looking for a ship date of a Model 629-1. Serial number ACT 95xx. Also was curious of the -1 after the Model 629. Thank you!

Default smith revolver

I have a 4inch 38sp smith revolver that I don't know what the model # or year is; the grip covers the butt; on the inside of the cylinder it says 25591; on the cylinder it says: 104724; what does this mean? I was told it was a police issued one. It says springfield ma and has some pat dates on the barrel.

Thanks,
Rob

Hello and Welcome to the Forum,
Your 629-1 dates to approx 1983. The -1 you see after the model# reflects a production and engineering change. The -1 for the Model 629 occurred in 1982 and was the elimination of the cylinder counterbore and pinned barrel. Because of the elimination of the cylinder counterbore, the cylinder was changed to a length of 1.69". Hope this info helps.

Hello and Welcome to the Forum.
Please refer to the link at the bottom. There are members who could probably identify your revolver with the information you gave, but I can't. Pic's will help a lot. The serial# is on the bottom of the grip frame, or butt of the revolver. You may or may not have to remove some wood stocks to see it. The serial# may also have a letter in front of the numbers and it's included in the serial#.

Thank you very much for your diligent effort. Sorry about requesting so many. Just read the post about holding the volume down.

I don't mind a bit. It's snowing like hell outside, and this breaks the monotony.

My serial number is J82622. The gun is a .38 chiefs special revolver model no. 36 with a 2 inch barrel. I have the original box, the wax paper, and the paperwork that came with the gun. The gun appears to be in excellent shape.

When was the gun shipped? Any ideas on what it would be worth?

I really appreciate any help. Thanks
