Default Just Wondering

Why people refer to their guns as "her"? Seems really weird to me. My guns are non-gender. Just guns.

In a similar thought it may be that if you end up on the wrong side of "her" you will experience a SERIOUS problem.

Default Think it go backs to sailing ships...

Ships are a sailors home away from home. They have to keep her ship shape and the ship would take care of them. The term usage probably just carried over to other areas. Just a guess. Now had you asked me about "the grave yard shift" or "saved by the bell" I could have given you a 100% correct answer!

You shouldn't anthropomorphize inanimate objects. They don't like it.

It's just like cars or ships or planes. Men like to give things they love female personas.

In German many nouns for inanimate objects are given gender designation by the form of their word for "the" (der, die, das). In German the word pistole is feminine; i.e., die pistole.

English, as with German, is a teutonic language, so I suppose some of that feminizing of certain nouns for inanimate objects carried over.

I can confirm that

A pistol is a female while a revolver is a male.
